Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

@Zoe7 I guess what I'm trying to say is I have done my rounds to make sure what I have heard in person just is backed up by others during phone calls to to certain organisations across Australia. I also have phone recordings of what happened in the mental health centre where I was treated. I also spoke to medical doctors in person that came full forth with their experiences of the system they working every day. So this isn't just a few people this is now many. I was shocked and couldn't believe what I was hearing and if I heard this from someone else for the first time I probably wouldn't believe it either. My frustration for the broken system we have today can sometimes be hard eating for people and I don't like to put people down, no one is perfect. I just have a hard time believing in two week short term study or a two month so called term study to say they are just better than placebo when ppl take them longer than that. And also placebo can be great the studies have also shown this. But then the medication starts to flatten out and you have to take more. Dr's mainly look at the 2 month study because they have been designed by drug companies that make money to publish them. Unfortunately they don't publish the ones that didn't work out because it looks better on paper. The proper long term studies get hidden in PubMed and out side of the journals and they are not good. That's where the disease kicks in. Many Dr's don't look at all the data because they don't have the time, it's the sad truth.

Hearing you @krs

I know it is serious. It is partly why I post on here.

I have finally found a very good gp. Took a long time. I am pretty old. Worth her weight in gold. She did a psychology degree as well as medicine so that she knows the difference issues around mental health and life, and is not just outsourcing to yet another specialist, eg psychiatrist. We all need to find a path that works for us. I am lucky and have worked long and hard at it and done a lot of research.

Take Good care of yourself in the best way you know. Losing trust in our thinking processes is a serious issue. It is good to reflect and all that, but its complicated, especially when trauma is involved, which it usually is. Though not always ...

Yes @F12

I was just posting to @krs that I had finally found a great gp.

We never had the internet back then. and in some ways there is more information out there, if you can get through the minefields. It is worth it, to find and build a good team, so it needs being a little proactive.

Yes @Appleblossom a good GP is key....your lucky you have a good one.

And yes, The internet is great - but my experiences where less than 10yrs ago. Should of believed the internet and not the 'expert's' but you live and learn hey.....I have extreme trust issues in all aspects of life due to my past but will honestly try to access 'professional' help one day. Until then.....joining this forum thingy has been a massive step for me to take so one at a time 🙂

I have also been diagnosed with DID and treatment resistant schizophrenia. Medication does nothing to help but talking therapy with my counsellor is helping immensely.

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

@Appleblossom Hopefully with time everyone will realise is all some sort of trauma no one gets anxiety or depression for no reason there is no genetic predisposition that has ever been found https://youtu.be/VkxmhIbZ_oM
It takes time and some people have no idea about why they feel they way they do. I'm teaching my gp, I made phone recordings from what the psychiatrist told me before I left that building. They shrink the brain and freeze it over time. Long term studies don't make it into the DSM only 2 weeks and 2 months. Please educate yourself like I have. Most psychologist's alone don't know and some psychiatrist especially the old ones have no idea. Drug reps also get paid well for giving out free lunches pen's etc to hand out pamphlets.

Good LInk @krs

Thank you.

Both my parents were given the diagnosis of Schizophrenia. I have been exploring it from a range of point of view. I grew up with "its genetic" and had a 30% chance of having it ... a lot to be afraid of ... hmmm ... It annoys me that Schizophrenia and sociopath are closely discussed. At least he is clear about saying it is a myth that its genetic. Bad journalism has a lot to answer for.

We know more about the human genome. They have been trying to prove it. Genetics does not seem to work that way. They were overinfluenced by Mendel and green and yellow beans ...

@F12 My father died in a psyche ward, but that was in the early 1970s. I brought his coroner's report in and the gp went through it with me. I really appreciated it and she was concerned to make caring statements, rather than pretend to know what she did not, even though she is very well researched and uptodate.

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

@Appleblossom yeah is a shocking thing to come to term's with. I went to a phycosis workshop conference in Adelaide and there were a bunch of doctors, nurses, social workers, and psychologists all talking about this Miss information some of them had no idea because how they are trained. It's pretty upsetting and frustrating. Take care.

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

Sorry for the loss of your father @Appleblossom . Seeing a parent in psych is exceptionally hard. My dad first went in about 8yrs ago - after his first suicide attempt. After a 2nd attempt, poor care and ECT he's still physically alive (just) but mentally gone.....

@Appleblossom there's another very important bit of information about liver mutation and how it affects the metabolism of antidepressants, another shocking descovery and it was studied in NSW the papers are in the link in the video description https://youtu.be/QeT_9F2oilk I was watching it with my gp the other day.

Definitely worth checking out.

Re: I've been labelled as treatment resistant schizophrenic

@F12

That would be extremely difficult to watch. My heart goes out to you. Listen to your instincts when finding a care team for yourself.

I was not present, just a child, but have researched a lot since. Lately I am getting better at self care, and not .... so obssessive.

@krsThank you.

I am watching a good course on virology from Colunbia uni atm.

It can be good to start your own thread if you feel it would work for you, or join in on others, especially the more social or discursive threads.
