That was probably the biggest battle of my life early on in my marriage ..... the emotional landscape of my in-law family was so dynamically (diabolically ?) opposed to how nurtured I was by my own parents, I felt like I had been hit by a freight train .... and then the indignation and anger began to set in ....
That was the start of my journey into bitterness and back, and understanding how poisonous that is to the soul .... exactly as you have just put into the nutshell above ....

Yeh @Faith-and-Hope, i hear you, taken me a long time to get it, will come in handy having to face the x monday, first time after 4yrs, really working at letting it all go, even if he hurts me. Can't believe its taken me so long for the penny to drop 'the how to' & the impact on me when i don't. Must buy an iPad or come on the forums through my computer so i can be as creative here as you and get a colourful profile picture ☆ 🐠💕🎓

It does seem to have an effect to repeat positive phrases over to oneself. When I first tried in my 20s I couldnt make it stick and mainly meditated with a mantra ... but getting older has its bonuses too ... maybe we are a tad wiser than when we were teens. Good Job for starting this thread ...
