Today I have chosen a more populist figure to quote but equally someone I admire greatly for what he has had to face. The quote is one that he would know about through his own personal struggle. In the last week or so I have gained a whole new respect and understanding for "acceptance" and its relevance in moving forward. I think it has brought about a major breakthrough for me. So for this reasons, I share this.

yesterday I used a quote from Micheal J Fox to define what Acceptance means to me, today I use George Orwell's words to convey how important I think it is to quieten the gremlins dancing in my mind.

Hi @Tookyspookims, how are you? Thanks for contributing here, I just love quotes, but like mini poems. ACCEPTANCE is a big issue for me as I tend to be such an idealist. My psychologist has been hammering hard how I need to accept that ' life is pain ' disappointing ' and people will hurt us ' - or something to that effect. Her recommended 'therapy' choice for me is in fact ACT (Acceptance commitment therapy), go figure! lol oh, plus's a large dose of Self-Compassion mixed in there somehow. Anyway, keep forgetting to pop over here so just wanted to say hi xox

that is so weird you say that. You do know I linked that acceptance quote to a discussion myself and @Appleblossom were having yesterday about ACT don't you?

oh and I'm fine thank you.. actually not been better in a very long time. This forum is really helping me, I think just being in contact with people who at least understand on an experiential level is helping to validate some of the stuff I have been through. Hope you are doing well.

@Former-Member I put this together for you. The key is, what does "acceptance" actually mean. The way we feel about "acceptance" what we think it is, can be the biggest stumbling block to the ACT process.
