QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND

QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND

A TIME FOR EVERYTHING
There is a time for everything, and a
season for every activity under the sun.
A time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time for decay and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones, a time to gather,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Re: QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND

Hey @BlueBells, one of UA must be psychic lol, I was just thinking this morning I must type out Desiderata. Saved me the trouble. Thank you, I love it, and love the song 🙂 Sure settles the mind. And heart.Kipling 'If' is interesting, not heard that one. Good stuff. Any more? 🙂

Hi @Faith-and-Hope, @Decadian, 🙂

Re: QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND

Hi @Decadian, @Former-Member and others

A couple of high school teachers encouraged us to learn and apply those two pieces, and it helped that the song was on air at the time, too. 🙂

Tawney, search "Desiderata", there are printable copies on line 😉

They are both incredible pieces. All I know of, but if I happen upon others, I will post 😉

Hugs 🙂

Life is hard, savour well

Re: QUOTES THAT SETTLE MY MIND

Hi Tawney- I know your quotes have been a real help and inspiration to so many people... I have already commented on Kipling's one. So well done!

I personally do not agree with Bithiah... If life is hard then there is little motivation- especially if one is depressed.

Yes, savour joy but why does it have to be brief??? Both comments have become conditioned responses that we need to break down- all of us not just the depressed...

Life has its ups and downs... know there can be joy ahead- but it doesn't have to be brief when it comes...

@Gabriel

I agree, in that sometimes the "hardness" of life is just difficult persistent struggle that is tiresome but bearable .... sometimes that "hardness" is devastating and barely survivable, but survive we must .... because joy exists too .... sometimes fleeting .... but only until the next moment of joy arises .....

And we need to condition ourselves to seek joy, and not overlook joy, and polish joy when it is a bit tarnished, and gather joy, and share joy, small or large doses of it with those around us .... because joy begets more joy .... and joy heals .... and joy re-energises .... and joy is a shared outcome when it is passed around ....

It is very a very good thing to deal in joy whenever and wherever it can be found .... even if we can only manage seed-pearls of it to begin with .... in whatever our circumstances ....

Well said @Faith-and-Hope.
@Gabriel, whai think Bithiah is saying is to 'take the time to smell the roses' Enjoy the little good moments every day, take them into your soul because this will give you strength to get through the 'hard' times, which for dome are crushing - prolonged. If the moments of joy have been etched in our psyche, they are retrievable in darkness, to energise us when life is hard. Also, I believe 'living in the present moment / noticing things, is what the well known Mindfulness strategies are all about. But hey, I hear you 🙂

"A BROKEN SPIRIT DRIES THE BONES BUT A MERRY HEART DOES GOOD, LIKE MEDICINE TO THE SOUL"
Proverbs 17:22

Sometimes I'll have a movie marathon of comedies, to boost my spirit. Thinking on & noticing the good stuff helps too. Counting ones blessings and giving thanks, showing gratitude. Even The little things can be so wonderful when you look for them. With depression, i have to make a conscious effort to see the lighter side of life, but its worth it.
