Chronic kidney disease & mental health

hello everyone

i have found some information on the sane forum for Kidney disease and mental health

i thought i was feeling ok with being diagnosed with kidney dease stage 4 with only one kidney

which means my only one kidney is working at 21%

now my specialist is wanting me to register to go on the kidney transplant

I am feeling so tired and sometimes it is hard to keep on keeping on

i am feeling soo many emotions at the moment

i have forms to get started to go on the list for a transplant

i also have diabetes which makes it hard and sometimes feeling overwhelmed

my mr shaz wants to be a living donor , he will have to go through the same tests as me

Hi @Shaz51

best of luck with the tests and specialist.

I always get nervous when doing blood tests, honestly it is so disempowering, the results give the Doctor so much say in our lives. Hopefully your results lead to a positive path.

Take care

Re: Chronic kidney disease & mental health

@Shaz51 I think I tried 2 fingers on my left hand (non-dominant hand), but both ached. 😓. I might try a 10-day CGM patch as a once-off just to see the trends over a week period to get some insights. Doing that once-off isn't too expensive, and since my base diet is fairly consistent with what I am eating that would be a good representation I reckon... 🤔 I do wonder sometimes if my very-fatigued times when unexpected could be related at all to low-blood-sugar times -- for example if I take my tablet and then forget to actually eat anything (because something interrupts me lol).

Just got the follow-up call from a place I visited yesterday (literally now). Unexpectedly one of the program they have suggested (mostly for the peer aspect, rather than the actual content of the program) is a body-psychology program for people with chronic illness/pain. I noticed it includes people with diabetes and kidney disease (as well as other conditions; I have some arthritis and other chronic pain). Basically anything where you body's condition impacts your wellbeing and (potentially) how you see your body.

It's interesting, because I have never considered the psychology of how once perceives and accepts/rejects their physical body due to its health / poor-health. But it makes sense. You don't have to comment on this if you don't want to, but I am curious you thoughts if you would like to share.

I wasn't aware of all those conditions, only some of them, affecting you @Shaz51 . And I already thought that you were an amazing trooper! Wow! Now i think you are at special forces trooper level with a Victorian cross award !!

Would this program be something you'd be interested to me to let you know how/what I think of it, if I end up enrolling in it next month when the centre/program re-opens? (no obligation, just depends if its a safe & interesting topic for you to chat about)

Thank you for sharing this @Shaz51. I can't even imagine how much this would impact your life... despite all that you experience, you always show up with so much optimism. However, having more support might make this feel easier - and you absolutely deserve people who can be there for you (like you are for everyone else!).

Am I understanding correctly that you're exploring a body-psychology program? 🫶
