Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

@NatureLover I should have taken a picture of the sliced cake... it was layer upon layer of deliciousness.

It is absolutely bucketing down here and blowing a gale... I'm going to be untangling wind chimes tomorrow. I had to turn the tv up the rain is that loud on the roof!

What did you decide on for lunch? I'm still all caked up but I'm craving baked beans and cheese on toast for later. Must be the weather. 😂

Yes, I'd say no chance for a walk here today as it's been raining solidly, and it sounds like you have the same there. @Escaped_Goat

You have wind chimes - how lovely. 🙂 I hope you don't lose power with the wind there. (That's reminded me to plug my phone in...we don't have a storm here, but you never know.)

In the end I had most of a tin of rice cream for lunch. Baked beans and cheese on toast sounds good. I found a tin of cherries (a treat) in the back of the fridge, so have taken it out to warm it up. I'll have it with the rest of the rice cream for dinner.

About to put a laundry wash on, then read my novel while it does the work. I used to put up to 2L of disinfectant in my laundry washes, as well as wash my hands sometimes in pure disinfectant. I don't do either of those things any more, thank goodness.

@NatureLover yeah... it's been duck weather here.

Ooh... rice cream... don't tempt me... I read that and my eyes immediately darted to the pantry shelves to see if I had rice to make some myself. I shouldn't... I have had no fruit or vegetables today.

I used to use all kinds of disinfectants and chemicals to clean with but I try to keep it very simple these days and as natural as possible within reason.

Do you have any rice? You could make some rice cream for tomorrow... @Escaped_Goat

Surely there was some sweet potato or something in that plant-based chocolate cake? 😄

What natural cleaning products do you use? I like the idea of natural cleaning products but my germophobia has me using chemicals unfortunately.

@NatureLover I'm off to bed. Will answer the cleaning products in the morning. Freezing cold here. Hope you sleep well.

Good morning @NatureLover the sun is shining brightly here! I'm down one coffee... not dressed yet because it's freezing cold still but hoping the sun sticks around long enough for a walk.

So my general cleaning spray I make my own with water, cleaning vinegar and tea tree oil. I mainly use that on surfaces. I did buy some wipes this past week because they were biodegradable and low chemicals but they dried my hands so I won't do that again. I use the vinegar and water for glass. I use a regular sensitive laundry powder... laundry stain remover powder and dishwasher tablets. I do buy that Lysol pump bottle for any heavy duty sanitising or stain removal on kitchen surfaces. I use the laundry stain remover powder for cleaning the loo as well. It does a great job! 😂 I'm just sensitive to a lot of chemicals so I try to avoid using too many in a small space.
I'm pretty comfortable with my level of cleanliness and germ killing here...

Not sure it would meet your current comfort level...

Hi @Escaped_Goat ..that's great you have some sun, no such luck here. I hope you do get a sunny walk in...

Thanks for describing your cleaning products. Sounds good and something I would like to do...it would be a matter of deciding in my brain.

I decided to stay in bed this morning. Am just having breakfast now. I thought I'd try porridge with sultanas, but it's not giving me the kick that Promite does! Am feeling a bit down today. No walks again today I suspect. I haven't decided what I need to do yet, apart from ringing the library now that they are open again to ask about overdue books - there are no fines but maybe I need to return the unread ones now that they are back open.

What does your day look like?

@NatureLover Sorry you're having a down day. I'm here if you need to vent.

I'm playing it by ear today and possibly all week. Antenatal nurse said yesterday that baby looks like he might be ready to put in an appearance this week. Granddaughter call was postponed until today due to her flu shot yesterday so am waiting for that but time is always dependent on the toddler.

Thanks. ❤ @Escaped_Goat I'm not actually motivated to do anything. I might go and lie down soon and read, then try again to do stuff this afternoon.

Of course, you need to be ready for your grandson to be born! I hope you enjoy your granddaughter call and she doesn't run off with the phone (you) at the end, although that is adorable 🙂

@NatureLover I hope the afternoon is better for you.

I have had my granddaughter chat. A healthy breakfast. Snacking on nuts and seeds. Going to walk in a few minutes. Unless it rains. It's doing that thing outside with the clouds again...
