Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Well done, @Dimity !

Why are you feelign queasy? Is it the stress of dealing with things you haven't seen for years?

I've given up for today. Not a very successful day. Going outside now for a walk.

Sorry you don't feel successful @NatureLover but you made an effort, and that's what counts, especially in the early stages of a new routine.

I walked too, and did a little work in the garden.

I didn't gain much from moving things around except perhaps clarity and grouping things together. I created a bit of space in a cupboard too.

The queasiness is stress or something I ate yesterday. I do find decluttering stressful - but so is NOT doing it. I just have to hope it's better when it's done.

May I say, I think you've had an extremely successful week overall... in getting ready for the inspection, in being vulnerable with a trusted friend in asking her help devising a cleaning schedule, then committing to it and making a start.

Well done on achieving your 3 hours, @Dimity ! 😇 As well as gardening and walking!

I think gaining clarity and sorting things into groups is useful.

I think because the deadline is over now, I'm finding it much harder.

Thank you for your kind words. ❤️

I've got an extra work day today.

I hope you feel OK today when you wake up.

Hello @NatureLover

Have a good day.

I trust your work days went well @NatureLover .

I gave some stuff to the Salvos today. I'm battling on but not seeing a lot of progress. Had exercise group today too but I despair of joining the provider's other social support groups. A volunteer today sounded like she was saying they'd given up on me and couldn't help me. But if my home help is moved to another day I might be able to join a different activity.

How are you finding your 3 new daily tasks? Challenging I guess.

I'm still pursuing my new exercise program but only every second day.

Oh, I hope your home help can be moved to another day! @Dimity

Shame on that volunteer!

Well done for getting stuff out of the house to the Salvos.

I had a very frustrating work day yesterday with technological problems all day. Hardly achieved any work. Am going to try again today. I also have a lunch out, plus errands to do including the germy chemist. A bit of a stressful day ahead (too much on).

I'm going OK with my 3 daily tasks so far.

I hope your exercise program is not painful?

Hope the day was better than you feared @NatureLover . Tech problems are upsetting - especially when they feel out of our control - and too many errands and the germy chemist would be triggering.

I had an early (for me) appointment lined up for tomorrow I'd been psyching myself up for, cancelled. Not a good day in other respects either. Tired, sore, missing Tiger, worried about a family member.

Let's hope tomorrow is better for both of us.

Hi @Dimity , thanks, the day went better than I expected and I got all my (germy) errands done. I'm still having technological problems though, and couldn't access any work. 😣

Sorry you had such an upsetting day yesterday. I think I asked you before if you would consider getting another cat - to my shame I can't remember why the answer was no?

Yes, I hope today is better for you 🤞

Today am meeting my abusive father. I always go ready to walk out if he gets abusive. Am dreading it as usual. I'll be very glad when it's over. I got some of that fresh ravioli pasta as a treat for afterwards. It was heavily discounted ($3 off).

Oh, and yesterday I unpacked all my shopping and put it away as soon as I got home (well, after my shower). This is something my psychologist set as an aim quite a while ago, but I don't always achieve it (obviously).

Thinking of you today.

Well done with the shopping @NatureLover .

How was the meetup with your father? I do hope it was amicable although no doubt it was stressful. In the past I've walked out of family gettogethers when I couldn't cope. (That was a very long time ago.)
