Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

@NatureLover the rose is a heritage Aussie variety known for flowering in the off season, that's its hallmark. I'm quite fond of it. Some of the old gardens around here that were razed for apartments had them.

Yes I know that cycle of depression, and high need but low motivation, very well. I'm feeling very guilty about it again but have had bad headaches for a week that may have developed into a respiratory virus. and sinusitis. I ache all over but my RAT was negative for Covid.

The family worries continue to bubble along.

My home help seemed to think I can declutter overnight if I put my mind to it. I realise it doesn't make sense to her, but her slapdash cleaning doesn't make sense to me either and is visibly inadequate. Grumpiness yes. I wasn't up to walking today, and tried to sleep for a couple of hours this afternoon

I'm very impressed that you stay on top of your voluntary work, and that it's not open-ended.

Take care. Hopefully I'll shake this off soon

Very interesting about your rose flowering in the off season! What colour is it?

That's not good about your headaches / respiratory virus / sinusitis. I hope you will be able to shake it off soon 🤞

Sorry that your cleaner is both inadequate and critical. 😣

What did you mean about my voluntary work being "not open ended"?

I've been feeling depressed and lonely so I've arranged to work in the library today with a friend. I don't want to leave the house, but recognise that it will probably do me good.

Raining this morning. I haven't been doing my morning walks.

I ended up managing 1.5 hours of tidying yesterday as I was so fed up with myself.

Hope you don't feel too rotten today.

@Dimity

Hello @NatureLover the rose is a nice salmon pink.

Well done, 1.5 hours is a good effort. I only met my goal 3 times last week.

I slept over 12 hours and feel a lot better thanks.

In saying I'm glad your work isn't open-ended I meant it's actually possible to feel finished for the day sometimes, there's not an infinite amount you tap into. I hope that makes sense.

It's good you've thought of an antidote to your loneliness and depression - I'm so glad you can go to the library with a friend. I'm facing a long grey afternoon and might go out for a couple of prescriptions.

Yes @Shaz51 it made a big difference. I hope your back is improving too.

I'll see if I can get a photo of the rose for you and @NatureLover .

The rose is lovely, thanks for the pic @Dimity .

So glad you're feeling a bit better after your good sleep!

Did you go out for the prescriptions?

Thanks for your words of praise. Do you have a regular time goal every day? 3 times is still good 👍

Ah yes, I see what you mean about my work being finished for the day some days.

It was such a struggle to leave the house yesterday! But I managed it (only because I was supposed to meet my friend), and also managed to overcome a connection problem at the library, so I felt pleased but tired when I got home.

We've got building demolition works going on next door to our units. They start at 7am and shake the house all day. It's very loud and disruptive when working.

It's a work day today - which I always enjoy, partly because I get to stay home. Also because I don't have to work on the house, plus I enjoy the work of course.

I hope you continue to feel better today...

Hi @NatureLover yes I got the prescriptions thanks and enquired about vaccines.

I have a daily goal of at least an hour's chores but haven't often met it lately.

I'm glad getting your work done is such a good incentive for you. I'm needing to find some sense of purpose.

I've found demolition is usually over in a matter of days but construction drags on for months or years. The roominghouse behind me still needs landscaping, but seems substantially finished. Another house behind me has been sold to a developer so I expect it will be demolished too at some stage.

I'm at a low ebb, although over the worst of my possible virus. I saw my psychologist today after a long break and am floundering a bit. Maybe I need a holiday.
