Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Sorry, I didn't mean to worry you, @Dimity .

You must be so lonely without Tiger. And I understand you're finding it too difficult to advertise for a new support worker at the moment.

I hope you won't be too hard on yourself about completing tasks before Easter. You've been achieving a lot - getting a lot of boxes out of your house to the Opp Shop. And you're suffering grief. 🫂

I'm OK but the house is completely out of control - bags all over, etc. Did my difficult medical tests yesterday. A work day today so I don't have to tackle the house.

Sending care ❤️

I'm glad you've had the necessary tests @NatureLover . I hope you don't have to wait too long for the results.

Yes my place is out of control too. I straightened a bit this afternoon but can't yet see how to organise steam cleaning.

Did you have a productive workday? It must be good to be making a meaningful contribution.

I'm pleased at having organised the 4 carloads despite the support worker cancelling. But it displaced so many boxes I'll need to figure out what to do next. I thought I might be able to disassemble empty boxes back to flat packs until I reuse them but they're sturdy, with locking tabs. I'm inundated - boxes still to be checked, boxes repacked, and empty boxes. My carport isn't weatherproof so it's not an option. I envy your bottomless shed.

Wednesday tomorrow. I hope I can achieve something useful... gardenwise or decluttering.

Best of luck to you too.

Hi @Dimity , the steam cleaning sounds like it's providing good motivation for you?

You envy my bottomless shed! That's a good perspective for me. Yes, I realise I'm lucky to have it. Thank you for the new perspective.

I'm glad you're pleased at your efforts under difficulty. 🙂

It's another 7 weeks till I go back to the respiratory specialist for the results.

Yes, a very productive workday thanks. I really need something in my life that's meaningful and that isn't housecleaning or decluttering!

I have an early coffee meeting this morning, then I guess tackling the house - mainly the stuff on the floors.

Yes, good luck to us!

@NatureLover I'm feeling a bit desperate over the steamcleaning, and need it even if I can't deal with the clutter first.

7 weeks is a long time for you to wait.

My anxiety has ramped up, blood pressure and heart rate too - and pain - what I think is somatic stress (you asked about it a couple of posts ago but I forgot to answer).

I've tried to tidy today but feel gridlocked.

I'll try to get moving tomorrow.

Thank you for describing your somatic stress. It sounds awful - I'm sorry to hear. 😥

So will you book the steam cleaning?

The respiratory specialist actually said to go back in 4-6 weeks, but I couldn't get an early appt time. It's a work day for me so I needed an early time.

I have a GP appt for a MHCP today. Plus I really need to tackle the bags on the floor - I'm having to step over them.

I bought myself a cheap ladies' purse as it was difficult using crumpled cash with my old small men's wallet. Now the banknotes are nice and flat and easy to find, plus there's a zipped compartment for coins. I'm surprised to find using cash is OK, despite the germs. Although not every place takes cash - the respiratory specialist didn't, leaving me in a pickle while I sorted it out.

I hope you have a better day today...

@Dimity

@NatureLover I booked steam cleaning on my third attempt. The first of the two quotes I got was phenomenally high, probably because the company does work for MyAgedCare. It's bad how unscrupulous companies see it and NDIS as cash cows.

I trust you got the new MHCP wihout any trouble. I'm going without one this year because my counsellor mucked up the administrative arrangements.

Are you finding it easier to budget with cash?

I had an emergency trip to the dentist today. I was lucky there'd been a cancellation.

And I was very worried about an accident-prone family member.

Tomorrow I'll try to tidy ready for steam cleaning Saturday. I wish I could find time motivation and energy for gardening, it would probably calm me.

Did you have any success with your bags?

I'm glad you've booked the steam cleaning, @Dimity . Do you have to move boxes from the lounge-room?

Sorry you had a dental emergency! An unexpected expense too.

Yes, it's easier to know how much I've got to spend, with cash.

I didn't have any success with the bags - in fact I went shopping and added 2 more bags to the floor. A work day today, so probably won't clear the bags unless I need a few for the washing machine load.

I asked on your Winter Solstice thread whether you could rest, but I realise you need to prepare for the steam cleaner. Good luck...

Gosh so today is a work day for you @NatureLover ? I remember you worked public holidays in your old job too.

I've tackled my bedroom and the spare room but don't know where to start with the livingroom. I don't think I can move the boxes without covering carpet that needs to be cleaned, and losing track of which ones I've already looked at. And then there's all the craft stuff.

The dentist (not my usual one) very kindly gave me a significant discount.

Have you been stocking up on groceries? I usually need to use mine within a few days of buying them. But I was definitely overstocked on catfood.

I'm looking at the livingroom with dread. I'll have to try...

Well I've done all I can. The actual time on chores and tidying was 5 1/2 hours but it took all day. I also went for a walk. My feet and back are complaining but the place is as ready as I can make it. Straightening and stacking stuff shows new perspectives. Gosh I have a lot to declutter. But I've made a difference over the years.

I hope I don't oversleep tomorrow. The chap is coming in the morning.

Maybe you'll get to the bags tomorrow @NatureLover ?
