Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Things with the psychologist sound tough @Dimity 😣

Do you want to talk this out at all? I will be back tomorrow night if you'd like to. 🫶

Thanks @AuntGlow I'm not sure but we could try. I'm at an impasse at present.

I realise we've drifted between threads. Maybe we could go back to my thread Winter Solstice.

I'll try to string things together.

Thanks @Dimity , my psychologist appt went well. I realise I'm very fortunate. I also do work after the appt, tying up my notes (what the psychologist said).

I'm shocked your psychologist wanted to use ChatGPT for your problems! That seems a major red flag to me. I see what you mean about being uneasy with her!

How has the counsellor let you down? (It's OK if you'd rather not say)

Does the GP you usually see help with MH?

With my phone, I've been turning it off and on again to unfreeze it. But it's happening every day which is a bad sign.

Work day today, but I also want to clean the bathroom basin. I've been putting it off. At least I'm home today - been out a lot lately and need some days at home.

I find I'm having to use cash again - like I did for most of my adult life before the inheritances, counting coins in the supermarket. I'm using cash I had at home for emergencies, as the bank accounts are very low. Cash is very germy though in my mind. Back to financial stress!

Hope today is a better day for you.

Hello @NatureLover

I'm very sorry to hear that things have again become very tight financially. You've shared that fear of food insecurity has affected your buying patterns in the past... I hope things won't go backwards for you.

In my winter solstice thread I shared about the counsellor and gp. I might have said too much and might end up taking it down.

Your phone sounds worrying. Is there an authorised repairer who could look at it under warranty?

I just read about your counsellor, psychologist and GP. Am so sorry things are so difficult for you, @Dimity 😥

I actually bought the phone last year so I'm not sure.

Have been awake since 1.20am so am not feeling up to coping with much. Sleep is getting worse. It's now 6am and I wish I could go back to sleep.

Insomnia - that's not good @NatureLover . It tends to feed into the worry cycle.

I had a suboptimal day too (understatement). I'm not sure what to do next.

People talk about having a toolkit of coping strategies. Nothing much comes to mind other than putting on a CD.

I hope you sleep better tonight.

I wish I could 'fix' things for you both @NatureLover @Dimity 😞

Thanks, @Dimity . I slept better but am still very tired. Want to go back to sleep (it's about 6.30am now)

It sounds like you had an awful day yesterday. I'm sorry the support worker cancelled again 😥

Does putting on a CD help? I hope so.

I've got coffee out this morning, then I'm not sure what. Having trouble thinking and making decisions this morning. Oh - I need to do the watering this morning too.

Got a lot of medical appts coming up. Need to book an iron infusion. Got the dentist and the respiratory specialist next week. (Then all the respiratory tests) Putting off a car service due to money.

I did manage to clean the bathroom basin the other day as planned. That made me feel a bit better about myself.

I really hope today is much better than yesterday for you...sending care.

You sound quite low @NatureLover . I hope the iron infusion gives you a lift. Juggling finances and priorities isn't easy, especially when you're not feeling 100%.

I didn't get around to putting on a CD. I haven't actually listened to music for a while, but the possibility came to mind.

Trouble thinking and making decisions... me too... maybe depression and fatigue. And I'm not getting things done. I've been making an effort with the boxes and letting other things slide.

Today I did get a load to the opshop. A friend suggested I bin everything instead but that would be difficult and wasteful. In the last month I've taken one load to the waste transfer station and two loads to the opshop. I'll try for another load before Easter. Beyond that I don't know what I'll do as I'd been counting on having the support worker's help.

Tomorrow I have someone coming to clean the roof guttering. I'm way behind on chores again. Hopefully I'll sleep better tonight and get more done tomorrow.

Take care.
