Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

One tooth...does this mean you have to go back for more to be done? @Dimity

Ha, we're both putting off appts with doctors! 😄

Glad to have the license arranged. Today an NBN technician is coming between 8-12 to fix the internet line that the tree took out. Then I'll work in the library in the afternoon.

Thanks for your encouragement about meeting my father. I'll be glad when it's over.

I hope you enjoy craft group despite the dominant ladies.

Yes @NatureLover I also need a cracked tooth dealt with.

Glad the license is sorted and you'll get your NBN line fixed. Mine was broken but couldn't be fixed as it ran through a neighbour's yard and they refused access. Rather than get a new superfast cable laid and mandatory higher charges I went over to cloudbased internet.

Enjoy the library.

Oh no re a further dentist visit 😣

How rude and callous of that neighbour who refused access to their yard!

I'm not sure what cloudbased internet is. But I'm shocked by it. After all the expense and infrastructure of the NBN, we now don't need that?!

You didn't say how your craft group went...I hope you enjoyed it.

I've been awake since 2am. Usually that would distress me, but surprisingly I don't feel upset. I've had a coffee and am about to go out for a walk as soon as it's light enough to see where I'm walking.

Hope the plumber is not too expensive.

@Dimity

Yes the costly NBN cables are caĺled into question @NatureLover . Unfortunately that particular neighbour is always difficult. I guess a new cable would have needed a trench through gardens and under concrete, and ongoing costs would have been huge considering I use very little bandwidth.

Craft? I'm reconsidering. The matriarch was back and repeatedly told me to shut up. She was reading out quiz questions. I'm not sure why she didn't like my answering, it seemed open to the group, but she seemed to relish reading out the answers herself. I'm not sure why I persisted. I didn't answer back at all when she was rude, and noone else said anything either. There's a chap there who is perhaps neurodivergent who's given a hard time too. I sometimes chat to him about his special interest. After years of social isolation I'm a little shocked at myself for not observing the social graces better. I do try to be pleasant and polite mostly but I don't like being bullied.

@Dimity I am shocked that the matriarch repeatedly told you to shut up, oh gosh 😲 What a bully! OMG. 😥

That lady doesn't understand (or is not willing to accept) that a group includes everyone, and everyone can participate. It's unfortunate she's there, and I'm sorry to hear.

I caught upon sleep last night, which was good as I'm facing my abusive father today for a coffee. I always get a pot of tea so that I have something to fiddle with (the milk jug, the sugar, pouring the tea, stirring etc). I also plan it like going into battle - topics I am willing to talk about, and not talk about, and at what point I will walk out if I am criticised. I will be very glad when it's over for the next 3 months.

I introduced a friend to the library on Tuesday, and I think we will meet there to work together regularly.

I hope your day today is a bit better, my friend 🤞

I love the formality and ritual of the tea ceremony @NatureLover . It's very good of you to continue seeing your father.

Meeting someone at the library seems a good alternative to working from home all the time.

I discovered today my home help shares my interest in world news and politics. On the alternate weeks when I don't have her I'll start with an expensive private support worker again. I guess I'm acknowledging I'm stuck. I've decided to try the practical help for now rather than the therapy. But I'm dreading it as the work will still be difficult and confronting.

Hoping you're OK @NatureLover and you weren't troubled or upset by your gettogether on Thursday

Thanks for your messages, @Dimity . I'm OK, not upset about the meeting with my father. But have been thrown by some difficult work issues and also too busy with too many things on every day. Today I am at home thankfully so can catch up a bit. I prefer a slower and less stressful pace.

I'm glad to hear your home help shares your interests!

When will the private support worker start? I'm guessing next week, since it's the alternate week to your home help?

I'm sorry the work will still be difficult and confronting. I hope it goes better then you expect, and you get along well with your support worker. Is it the same one you had in the past?

It seems like it will be a nice day today, so I hope you enjoy your evening walk if you decide to go.

Hello @NatureLover I hope you enjoyed the quieter day yesterday and can resolve the work issues. It's not always easy to achieve the right balance of activity, it's not always under our control.

Yes, I've had this helper before but she helped with transport mostly, not the decluttering. It's good the alternate week to home help seems to suit her schedule. She'll be more than 10 times the price of the subsidised home help so I really hope it proves worthwhile.

Hope the hot days today and tomorrow don't exacerbate your asthma.

10 times the price! @Dimity

I'm glad you know her already and approve of her. I'm not sure which day she'll start this week, but I hope it goes well and she's a good declutterer according to your requirements. And that she listens to your instructions as to how you want to go about it.

I'm working quietly at home today, trying to resolve the work issues. A lot of it is technology not performing as it should. I'm baffled about the technology.

I realised yesterday that I'm actually getting used to having a clear floor.

I've also resolved to go back to the respiratory specialist. My coughing is not good. I have a GP appt this week to request the referral.

It's hot today! Thanks for your wishes - you remembered that heat's not good for my asthma. You're very good at remembering details. Will you go for a walk this evening? At what temperature would you stay inside as it's too hot?

I hope you find some success today at whatever you want to tackle. 🙂
