Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

I'm glad there's not a long break for your social groups @Dimity .

I agree about airconditioning!

Yes, the shed situation is worrying me, plus how I'll manage to deal with it. I haven't psyched up for many months which I usually need to deal with the shed boxes 😣 There is not a square centimetre of space in my house to put anything. 😥

I'm sorry your storage situation is so fraught also.

Yes please, I would like tidying company when dealing with the dreaded boxes.

That's good you have a plan 🙂

Today I have errands early, plus work. What about you?

Hello @NatureLover just enjoyed a little rain.

I've not yet started the day. I'll need to shop and do usual chores. I'll try to tackle tabletops and a pile in the livingroom.

I hear you re boxes and lack of space. I guess we end up prioritising box contents vs what we have that's already occupying space. For me I know I'll end up emptying some unused stuff from a wardrobe. That will be low hanging fruit that's easily dealt with,, and will make room for other stuff. It will be a start. But today I'd like to at least partially clear the kitchen table and coffee table.

Well I started on the kitchen table and found a list and realised I'd forgotten someone's Christmas card. So I had to go to another suburb to try to catch the post. Then ended up impulse buying lots I wouldn't normally. Expensive foods and a flowering poinsettia.

So today was a failure re decluttering @NatureLover . Hope your day was more successful.

Sorry your day didn't end up going as you had planned, @Dimity .

I had a busy work day and didn't get to my errands, so that will be this morning's task.

Quite a bit cooler this morning. Two days of chores now, ho hum.

Hope your day goes well today.

Hope you had a good day and were successful with your chores @NatureLover . I took things slowly and got through several tasks but of course there's always more to be done. I wish I could keep going longer.

My mood/activity tracker gave me an annual report today. My mood has lifted a little this month but was very low all year, with minor fluctuations. I achieved my cleaning/tidying goal of at least an hour a day 49% of the time. I usually walk too.

That's interesting about your annual report, @Dimity . I think 49% is good, given the huge things you were battling this year. I'm sure I would've got much less than 49% this year.

I'm glad to hear your mood has lifted a little this month. Do you think the social groups have played a part in that?

I've achieved nothing on the house for days. After all my errands yesterday, I read for the rest of the day. It was thoroughly enjoyable, but I really need to get working on the house. At this rate I will be cleaning frantically all Cmas Day.

What are your plans for Cmas Day?

Re: Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

@NatureLover I see one twig of the family tree Wednesday and other people Monday and Tuesday.

I guess my uplift in mood coincides with accepting the futility of trying to improve the family situation, seeing the new psychologist, and starting attending groups for social support. But none of them really feels particularly positive. Other things still seem quite difficult.

It's good you have an outlet in reading - and good books.

I'm not getting much done either. I was upset today to find my just-finished craft project has a large hole in it and I don't know if I'll be able to repair it. I tried to tidy my papers but I'm making very little progress. Then I watched most of the Bondi memorial service.

I'd hoped to tidy by tomorrow but I've failed miserably.

Good luck for tomorrow, you've still got two days to make a difference.

@Dimity I am home all Cmas Day so will be here if you want to chat.

I agree that those 3 things are good improvements.

That's a disappointment about the hole in your craft project!

I don't feel up to much today 😣

Sending you a cheerio @NatureLover and hopes the day improves for you.

Enjoyed my brunch with a young couple. Will go out again shortly to buy hardware - my kitchen taps need replacing.

@NatureLover I've been muddled. I thought Christmas was Wednesday. So I actually have the family thing Thursday. I'm sorry to hear you'll be home by yourself. I wonder if there'll be a forums party.
