Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

That's courageous @NatureLover . Best wishes for the long drive to and fro and I hope the difficult conversations are easier and more positive than you expect.

Hi @Dimity , the difficult conversation went better than expected - in fact they want me to stay. However, my strong gut feeling is to leave (before I've even started). I have an email in to the CEO asking for clarification of my potential role. I'm hoping I can pull out delicately.

Nothing but rain this morning and I've been awake since 4am. The state of the house is slipping as I've been depressed about the job situation.

I hope your day yesterday was OK. And that today goes well and you feel a bit stronger.

Funny how the state of the house can be a barometer of our feelings @NatureLover . As I said to someone the state of my place shows I haven't been coping.

I'm trying to catch up on all sorts of things. I bought and set up a new tablet. I still haven't loaded all the apps. And my provider has warned me my phone is out of date. I've been making appointments and trying to do chores. Still slipping behind. I haven't yet actioned all that legal stuff, I'm not really sure how to. I've joined another activity group. I'm trying to make progress but it's an effort. I'm no closer to regaining any sort of routine. My drafted routine is actually buried somewhere on the kitchen table under bills etc.

It sounds as though the people at the little job are quite nice, which helps. It would be awful for you and compound your misery if they weren't. I hope you get a reply to your email before you see your psychologist.

Tomorrow I guess I'll try again. And hope I get more done.

That's good you've joined another activity group, @Dimity . Have you gone to its first session yet?

Congratulations on your new tablet.

No reply from the CEO yet. I doubt she will reply. Thinking about how I can pull out before I'm due to go back on Monday. Trying to get up the courage.

Got a catch-up today, plus a germy GP appt for scripts. This week is over-busy. I even have 2 social events on Saturday - one would be plenty.

Nice to finally see some sun out my window this morning.

I hope you feel a bit stronger today and that your anxiety, depression and stress ease 🤞

Hi @NatureLover yes I went to the new group Tuesday. It's worked out that craft and exercise will be around the same time on alternating weeks.

Poor you, it sounds as though it's quite a worry. Would it be preferable to quit now, or to miss Monday and postpone further engagement until you've caught up with your psychologist? To me as an outsider having known you for a while the worst aspect seems to be the long drive, with the fact that it's admin work not being ideal, and the generally rundown state of the office and services not helping. Fighting that apprehension on a weekly basis would be quite a challenge. But overcoming it might be rewarding as you have so much to offer, and also to gain, from your involvement. Your call. I'll support you whichever way you decide.

I'm feeling rather fragile today and will take things quietly.

Take it easy @scruffypuffball .

The site is glitchy on my old phone too. If I try to click on a link the page jumps around.

Hope your migraine eases soon.

Am so pleased to hear you went to the new group - was it good? I'm glad that on Tuesdays now you have these 2 social sessions on alternate weeks 🙂

Thanks for your support. ❤ I see my psychologist today, and unless she tells me I'm way off track, I am planning to send my resignation email this afternoon. I don't want to go back on Monday. Not that I've really started yet.

Sorry you are feeling so fragile 😥 Sending hugs 🫂

@NatureLover I'm so glad you shoild be able to resolve things today, with your psychologist's blessing. It's been a while.

Yes thanks the exercise group was good but more challenging than I expected - the blurb says it promotes neuroplasticity. Started easy but worked us hard. It will very a big change to go out regularly. I'm just a bit upset that I was referred for these things in January and only vigorous self advocacy got these things finally happening.

Today I'll be self advocating at the optometrist, asking for a referral to a specialist.
