Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

You've done well having two visitors @NatureLover .

No I haven't been sweetening the grapefruit... I try to avoid sugar and sweeteners.

The house is a mess, the garden needs work and the paperwork has to be done. In the last 3 days I've had 2 specialists and the vet that didn't take all day but consumed my mental bandwidth. Hopefully I'll be more productive tomorrow.

It sounds as though you've got your errands done early this week.

I wonder what positives I'll find tomorrow. Tonight the cat is already happier after his arthritis shot.

Thanks, @Dimity . The visitors were a challenge but it feels good afterwards.

Amazing that you can eat grapefruit without any sweeteners! 😲

I understand how medical appts can easily drain your mental bandwidth. Plus the appts sounded difficult. 🫂

The nasty neighbour here has escalated and was screaming that she's going to unalive my nice neighbour's quiet, gentle teenage children. She also physically attacked one of them plus my nice neighbour. So she's received her second breach of contract from the real estate agent. I would never wish anyone to be homeless, but this nasty neighbour has been terrorising us for 9 years and we've all kept quiet out of concern for her. No more.

I was in the very rare mood to clean and tidy the house perfectly yesterday (my perfectionism rearing its ugly head again). So instead of working at my job all day, I worked on the house for 3 hours! Which means I have to catch up on my job today. No errands needed unless reserved books come in at the library.

I like your attitude of finding positives...I hope you can find some today.

Hello @NatureLover it must be good to have such a flexible job. You're becoming quite house-proud! Good to hear.

That sounds an awful situation with your neighbours. She sounds unwell but noone should be expected to put up with her behaviour.

I found it very hard to get started today but eventually tackled the kitchen. I want to restart my physio exercises and get back on track with tidying and decluttering as I've let things slide too long. I feel so tired of everything.

I think daylight saving starts Sunday. The mornings will be darker for you for a while.

It's actually very weird to feel house proud - I feel at a bit of a loss as to what to do. Of course, there's the 35 boxes in the shed...!

The nasty neighbour is refusing psychiatric help, sadly. She's now got 2 restraining orders out on her.

Well done on tackling your kitchen 👏

I bet you feel tired of everything 😥🫂

Yes, this morning feels quite late - it should be light at 5.45 but it's 6.45 now. The change of clocks always throws me. Will you walk an hour later now?

I've got dog walking with a friend today. Am enjoying this beautiful weather.

Good luck with restarting your physio exercises, and with your tasks today.

@Dimity

I'll probably keep walking before dinner until it gets hotter @NatureLover .

I have dozens of boxes and piles of other stuff... plus the worrying stuff elsewhere. I need help with it, either help doing it or help to work out how to tackle it.

I worked in the garden this afternoon but there's even more to do than I expected now the weeds are growing. I planted a couple of things and repotted my cyclamens as the pot had fallen and spilt.

I've had vivid dreams the last couple of nights that made me think about things. And I've got some appointments coming up this week that could change things. I'm feeling more positive. A change of mindset would be good.

Glad you were feeling a bit more positive yesterday, @Dimity .

Can I help in any way with your tackling of the boxes and piles?

I really enjoyed the gorgeous weather at the weekend. This week is overfull with 3, possibly 4 social events plus my psychologist appt. I don't know why it all comes at once! But I can't knock the invitations back as I've been a bit lonely since leaving my former job.

Good luck with your appts coming up this week.

Thanks @NatureLover I'll appreciate your help with the boxes and piles of stuff but I'll put it off until I get the admin out of the way. I see the solicitor again tomorrow and I'll have a couple of MH appointments this week where I'm hoping to make a fresh start.

I'm lonely too. It's a couple of months since I saw anyone I know, other than exchanging a few words with a neighbour.. The second last time was 4 months ago. MyAgedCare referred me to a place for social support and I've reached out 3 times but they're obviously not interested. Almost all the local community groups here are for particular ethnicities or diaspora.

I understand the need to get your admin out of the way first, @Dimity .

I'm disappointed for you that the social support group hasn't replied to you. Do they run social events that you could just turn up to?

I've got another friend coming round today (need to spot clean this morning), plus I've invited my new boss around towards the end of the month. This has the good side effect of forcing me to keep the house neat and clean!

Good luckwith the solicitor today, plus your two MH appts this week.

Hope the visit went well @NatureLover .

I need to book in for the social support sessions, especially if I want help with transport. They still haven't replied to my enquiries. Yet they're advertising for new members.

Today I checked in with the solicitor and counsellor. Making progress I hope. I've had some things to follow up. Decluttering came up too. And the immensity of the problems. The counsellor encouraged me to keep working through things.

Thanks @Dimity , the visit went well.

It sounds like you had a positive session with your counsellor, despite the recent loss of trust in her?

I hope you can book in for the social support sessions, that they get back to you about it 🤞

Today is lunch with old-job friends at a hotel. I've also put in an application for the small office job (volunteer admin assistant role) that I've mentioned before, the one that's 40 minutes' drive away. It will be a challenge, but I need to get out of the house. I will need to work on my agoraphobia with my psychologist, starting at this Friday's psychologist appt I hope. I think it will involve practice drives (exposure therapy).

It sounds like you might have made some progress with the solicitor.

Good luck today with whatever you decide to focus on...
