Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Do you mean you've cancelled your procedure? @Dimity

And do you mean the possible consequences of cancelling are dire, or the possible consequences of the procedure would've been dire?

Thankfully my psychiatrist was there yesterday! I rang three times before leaving home to make sure. Phew - now the next 3 appts can be by Telehealth (I have 4 a year with him).

I hope you feel OK today...

@NatureLover I cancelled the procedure. There may be consequences if it means pathology remains undiscovered, and this is a definite possibility given I needed interventions 4 years ago and this is a follow-up. But what I meant was the potential consequences of being deemed mentally incompetent are dire. They'd be life-changing.

I'm glad you finally caught up with your psychiatrist. I trust you're over the anxiety of having to be in the hospital.

I'm upset. I've sometimes felt I'm in freeze response. At the moment it feels like quicksand - if I make the effort to deal with my problems I sink deeper.

@NatureLover I do intend to rebook the procedure if I re-emerge from the legal labyrinth.

I'm snowed under. Didn't get to the kitchen mess today. Should have done that instead of screentime.

Friday tomorrow! Bloods, chores, shopping, gardening... I wonder what I'll achieve. Good luck with your to-do list.

Thanks for explaining, @Dimity . Oh gosh. Is that what the family pressure is? Trying to get you deemed mentally incompetent? 😥 (Which you are not!!)

No wonder you are upset - the quicksand analogy is awful 🫂

Yes, have recovered from the hospital visit thanks. Got my psychologist today.

Thinking of you and sending care...

I hope you won't be too hard on yourself about your screentime, @Dimity . With all your pressure and heavy burdens, you need some escapism I reckon.

You have a busy day today...good luck with it all. Also with working out your legal affairs.

@NatureLover no noone's trying to get me deemed incompetent at the moment I don't think. But they want me to disinherit people and say the people disinherited might challenge my will.

I've just had to sort the neighbours garbage because council audited our shared recycling bins and most were deemed noncompliant. I'm so sick of dealing with all the cr@p.

I'll focus on house and garden after trying to work out what's happening with my bank complaint.

That's rough, @Dimity . I think no-one but the person themself should influence who benefits in their will.

And oh no re your neighbours' bins!! 😣

I had a good appt with my psychologist and she encouraged me to investigate a small office volunteer job I'm thinking about. She's concerned that my current work from home job is not providing socialisation and is not getting me out of the house. However I'm committed to it for at least a year, two days a week. So the office job would be extra...not sure if I can handle 3 days a week.

I hope your bank complaint is resolved successfully for you.

I want to focus on the house and garden too, this weekend. Good luck to us both...

Yes your psychologist has a good point about the socialisation @NatureLover .

I cleaned up the rest of the garbage today. One neighbour said I was rude to ask for the person responsible to do it and another told me off for always asking how he is and if he's OK (he's a recluse).

My sister is unwell and I'm trying to mediate.

Can't do anything right at present.

Didn't get far with chores today. Also feel the pressure of needing to declutter and not getting to it. If I can get into the garden I might feel better.

Hope your day was more successful!

I don't think it's rude to ask the person responsible to fix the garbage situation, @Dimity .

Were you able to get into the garden yesterday and feel a bit better as a result?

I achieved precisely nothing yesterday, not even laundry, as I ended up having one of my "days off" from everything. It was good. I mainly read books plus a couple of short walks.

Today is possible dog walking and I need to tidy and clean. Plus watering.

It's going to be fine so I hope you can get outside for walking or gardening.

A day off must have been what you needed @NatureLover .

I'm way behind. Did some chores but no gardening. But I got to a garden show.

The sun was quite warm.

I'm overloaded with problems atm and am floundering. I see the counsellor tomorrow but expect no help whatsoever. I see the gp later in the week. I'm due for a new MHCP.
