Any diagnosed germophobes or hoarders on this forum?

Hi, I have just joined. I have a few mental illnesses, but am especially interested in hearing if there are any diagnosed germophobes or people with hoarding disorder on these forums?

I don't know any germophobes in real life, and would be interested to know how any of you pre-Corona germophobes are doing. Can you find enough sanitiser? If not, what are you using instead? Has your germophobia gone sky-high in this pandemic? Do you find it less or more lonely now that nearly everyone is a self-confessed germophobe?

My germophobia is quite bad - I can't have anyone in my house, and need lots of sanitiser when I go out. E.g. I use it after leaving my house and before I get in the car; again before I touch the steering wheel, again after touching my purse, again before putting my seat belt on, etc. I am struggling to find enough sanitiser. If I run out, I was thinking about diluting some disinfectant and putting it into an old water bottle to take out with me. I had one really bad panic lasting 3 days that was debilitating, due to COVID-19, but after that thankfully my germophobia came back down to normal levels. I guess normal levels are not that great but at least I am used to them!

I am strangely finding it more lonely as a diagnosed germophobe now, and would really like to meet some other germophobes online and hear how you're going. At least I had a friend tell me that I was in a stronger position than him, during this health crisis, as he had trouble remembering to wash his hands, whereas I wash them a hundred times a day already!

Hi @Maggie 🙂 ☕

@NatureLover It never crossed my mind to avoid you or anyone because of hoarding.

Yes, I realise I was stupid - you are above thinking that. On this website there must be a lot of reminders everywhere about stuff.

I feel for your neighbour - hoarding is a great burden. Sometimes I have a recurring dream where I am in the middle of my possessions, which stretch in all directions to the horizon, piled haphazardly... It's not the reality, and never has been that bad, but it feels like it sometimes.

There is nothing amazing about me @NatureLover , I just like you, as you are. 💜💜

Thank you 🙂

I think there were so many baby trees as we had such a wet year last year. There's never been so many growing before.

What else are you growing in your garden, apart from strawberries and pumpkins?

Years ago I tried to grow silverbeet in large pots (which the possums ate) and also bought some native flowering bushes for the bees...they weren't a great success and didn't flower much. I think there wasn't enough sun in the garden. So I planted the natives out along the driveway where there's more sun.

I also got a voucher from the council years ago when they removed some non-native trees. The voucher was for native trees. I researched and chose carefully, despite knowing nothing about what might be best. I chose silver wattle, golden wattle, snow daisy bushes x 2, and some pretty purple flowering bushes (I've forgotten the name now) that were growing nicely but were dug up by the council a couple of years later. The snow daisy bushes are still going - one is as tall as a tree, and the other has struggled since the start as I think I must have planted it over a large tree root or something. I am proud of it still going. It usually needs some watering help in summer. The golden wattle was great for about 7 years and then developed gall-something. 😞 The silver wattle is my pride and joy - a magnificent tall tree with frondy-looking leaves.

There are also cherry-plum and old nectarine trees in the garden and along the driveway. The nectarines are usually too hard to eat, even when ripe. The cherry-plums are nice but tart.

Having written all that., I'm struck again by how incredibly fortunate I am to be living here with all these beautiful trees and bushes around me. There are also 5 rosebushes in the garden, which give me joy - apart from my rosebush in a pot.

I hope that today is a better day for you. 💜

@NatureLover Your garden sounds, ( and smells ) beautiful. I love bushy garden smells. Wattle trees are so beautiful. Have you every pressured the flowers ? They make lovely cards.

I think hoarding would be hard to live with. Not just the clutter, but the mind stuff that goes with it, my mother was passionate about her stuff, though she use little to nothing of it. Always the rainy day stuff. I think I’m understanding her more as I age.

I have potatoes in my veggie patch. Silverbeat , kale, lettuce. The front isn’t doing too well for veggies, I think it’s been sprayed with stuff. My bottlebrush tree is free now. It’s taken the best part of the year, but it’s attracting lots of birds. It had two jasmine and a rambling rose twisted in and through it, mostly dead stuff that had never been pruned. A challenge, but bit by bit makes a difference.

I have two pics to share. I hope you like them. The first is called the Thinking tree , the other is self explanatory.

I hope you day goes ok. Rain forecast here. Another weekend. 😂😂😂

Both pics are beautiful, thanks @Maggie 🙂

I haven't pressed flowers since I was a child. I used to make cards, but ran out of emotional energy.

I'm so very sorry that your mother was passionate about her things, but abusive of you. It's the wrong way around. 😞

Your veggie patch sounds good. Do snails go after your lettuces? Sounds like you've done well to get rid of the things twisted into your bottlebrush.

I had just started out on a gentle walk when I got caught in the rain. Am back home now. Grocery shopping next, when the rain eases.

Much 💜

Thanks for your update, @Emelia8 ...I think it was wise to postpone your trip, although disappointing, as you say. You can only do what you can cope with.

Am concerned you can't get another appt with your psychologist...would it be possible to get an appt, even if it's a while away? Then at least you'd know you'd have one...

Hi @Anastasia , I think you might be back to work today, if you haven't been already...I know you are covering for someone else, with added pressures...am thinking of you and wishing you all you need to cope with the stress and workload. 💙
