Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Hi everyone on the forums. *Admins/mods, feel free to move this to an appropriate thread if this one isn't the right place.*

I'm really down right now, in a dark place. I want to hurt myself, I'm feeling suicidal. I've never attempted or done anything in my life but I want to.

As I mentioned in one of my posts, I don't see my Psychiatrist again until March 30. Then the new GP on March 13, but I want to see my Psychiatrist more because I feel more comfortable with him.

I also mentioned in another post that the local mental health triage (yes thats what they called themselves) refuse to help me and support me, they just admit people so they won't help or tell me people/places that can. I give up.

I can't get a job, I can't afford to study and the free courses at TAFE & Uni you had to a course already & have qualifications which I don't. I can't meet people. I went to a Headspace Centre & that was bad for me, sometime last year (for a group & Psychologist).

I don't see Psychologists anymore because of bad experiences. I see my Psychiatrist on Skype because he's in Sydney & I'm in Victoria (regional sort of).

I don't know what to do, I just give up. I don't want to be here anymore and I can't stop these thoughts, it's so hard for me not to try and do something and fight the thoughts. I only have my parents but it's so hard.

I'm sorry for coming on here and venting, I know everyone has their own things to deal with. I don't want to call 000 at the moment, I'd have to discuss with my parents anyway but they know everything I go through.

I don't know if these meds are working at all or if i should up the dosage like my Psychiatrist said shortly.

I just want to hurt myself and don't want to be here. I'm so stressed and just ready for a break down. On my walk today with my dog I had a panic attack because of everything and just seeing a few people and cars drive by which gets a bit much for me as silly as that sounds, I know. And I just feel like I'm ready for a breakdown.

Yes I've spoken to Kids Helpline, eHeadspace, Beyond Blue, SANE web chat etc. I might try them now too if I can get through, I don't know.

Re: Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Hi @Former-Member Sounds like a meaningful thing for you to do, to visit your Granpa's grave.

It's actually my Birthday on the 15th of March (51) - & the Anniversary of my Dad's passing on the 20th of March.

I have not seen my Dad's grave since his Funeral, in 2016 (4 years ago).

That's in NSW, & I am in WA.

I hope things go well (or better) for you, with seeing your GP etc.

Hi all, I'll reply to my notification's properly soon, I just got back from the GP before. She's nice but she said I'll have to wait until I see my Psychiatrist about the meds incase I need to change them, fair enough because she'd have to get his consent. She said I should go to Headspace for a Psychologist because it's free but I told her I already went there and it was traumatic for me because the group members, manager and Psychologist made fun of my mental illnesses, why I don't know, so that was traumatic and I never want to go back there and I haven't since. I also told her that's why I don't have a Psychologist anyway because they've told me how to kms (I'll just shorten that) when I never even asked, and none here bulk bill and take new patients. She wrote down some phone numbers for me locally but I don't really want to see one because of bad experiences, and the triage refuse to help me (my Psychiatrist did a referral there).

Anyway I'll speak to you all soon and reply to the notifications properly later, have a bit to do, sorry everyone. Take care all.

@musicfanantic_x if you feel up to it, I suggest you bring up the making fun of your Mental Illness with the headspace. That will hopefully clarify why it occurred and how it can be avoided in the future.

Hey there @Former-Member

I'm sorry to hear you had such a negative experience with this particular psychologist. There is a certain level of respect we all deserve when accessing support from a professional, and it sounds disheartening to have had this happen. I hope this does not discourage you or others from reaching out and trying again, as each professional is different. Some people find it takes a few goes to find a psychologist who they really trust and feel they can work well with. Bad experiences can definitely put us off trying again, but it can also be worth it

Hi @Former-Member

I had a simiilar thing with my GP who wouldn't make a decision on my meds until I saw the Psychiatrist. The Psychiatrist was mad at the GP as they all (GPs) can make the same scripts as the Psychiatrists, then I saw another GP a year later at the same med centre and she changed my meds to the ones im on now, I found from that experience that some GPs are very inexperienced in mental health and instead of consulting with an experienced GP or mentor they fob you off. I allowed that to happen because I was still holding it together enough to wait for the Psychiatrist I think within a week or two.

Re: Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Thank you all for your kind words.

@TAB - thank you. The Clinic itself is good because there's lots of GPs, all with lots of qualifications and they're all polite, the Nurses and Receptionists are too. They always smile at me and ask how I am when I'm waiting and they walk past. Some elderly couple walked in and sat beside me and I was talking to them and they were holding hands, it was sweet. Then another elderly lady was there waiting for her results and her GP came out and said everything is good which made her smile then he helped her up and went down to help her make another appointment in a week. I've never seen such nice people in a GP Clinic.

@MDT - well I did make a complaint about what happened at Headspace, this last year sometime I think, I can't remember. The manager lost her job and apparently they have a new manager, some new counsellors and new staff. I told the GP in a nice way that I don't care, I understand that she's trying to help and that it's free and for people 12-25 but I said I'm not going back there or anywhere near there, even eHeadspace online are always rude to me and I have no clue why, all I do is wait on there if I have time and then they're just rude and basically tell me to go away. Why I don't know. Plus I don't want to trigger those traumatic times for me when I went there and see people from that so called crap group. They don't care and they won't let me see anyone else at Headspace anyway but thats good because it's crap and I don't want to be involved with any part of it. That's just my opinion and experience though, maybe it's helpful to others around Australia, I don't know, if so then thats good for them.

@Jupiter - thanks. I don't know if I want to see a Psychologist, I know what they do and how they work etc. but it's taken me a lot to trust "professionals". The only person I trusted the first time was my Psychiatrist and this was because of how polite he is and I can tell that he wants to help me because of his manner and so forth. I'm still trying to see if this new GP will help but I've only seen her twice. Plus nowhere where I am will take new patients and bulk bill, Psychologists that is. And all the ones on the company I do Telehealth with my Psychiatrist on are also rude, the ones I've seen anyway, they have some new ones but I'm also anxious to see them because of how bad the previous ones were.

@Valentine - I'm sorry to hear that. I can understand why she doesn't want to go against my Psychiatrist and change my meds completely but am I wrong in saying that she could've at least called him or wrote him a letter/fax just saying how I'm feeling (side effects, feeling more depressed, etc). and then they could discuss it from there and I could possibly (and hopefully) be on new meds next time I see the GP? I mean I do trust my Psychiatrist with my meds but I don't see him until the 30th and meanwhile I have to put up with feeling like crap on these meds. I know meds aren't a "fix all" as people have said but I don't even seem to be feeling happy. Of course I have my moments when I'm a bit happy and depressed but I was like that even before I went on meds in general. I don't know really. I don't know what to expect.

Take care everyone.

Re: Is anyone around tonight? Depressed and suicidal

Hi @Former-Member

Hearing you about how a pleasant doctor's clinic can make a difference. I changed mine last year and I prefer this new one for lots of reasons. The old one was walking distance but somehow not as professional or kind ?? I dont need lots of attention, but when we sense someone is making fun of us, it gets very tricky to keep reaching out to them. I have had psychologists say some of the most inaccurate hurtful things about my family, which is very upsetting.

To some extent we do need to trust our own instinct. I used to overcome my fear of feeling rejected or mocked a lot, because I had to distinguish general fear from the actual fact of it happening. These days I can listen to my instincts more.

Take Care
