Something’s not right

Voluntary Hospital Admission, I want To, But I'm Scared.

Voluntary Hospital Admission, I want To, But I'm Scared.

Hi I'm Leesu and it's been awhile for me on this site.

I have a question and I'm hoping someone can help.

Things haven't been great for me. Last year I was diagnosed with OCD (Obsessive Thoughts) i've dealt with Anxiety and Depression for years.

Now I think just before Christmas i started to here voices in my head and on Christmas eve i gave birth to my second child who was 4 weeks early.

For the last 6 months i've tried to cope as best as i could and linked back with my Psychologist alog with my GP and also saw a Psychriatrist whom recommended i change my medication as I was feeling like they were no longer effective.

Now i have been on the new medication for only 2 weeks. I felt great the first 3 days then have gone downhill. I had an episode on the 5th day where I screamed at the local park, ran onto the raod and started to pull my hair out. My Partner got me off the road and stopped me from pulling my hair out. He calmed me down but the voices started screaming at me and were convincing me to open the car door while we were driving on the highway.

I didn't go and see anyone but i know I should have straight away..

The weekend gone past i had another episode yet this one is more serious this time. I self-harmed and have now scared myself and my partner to the point where I feel like admitting myself because I don't know how to deal with it anymore.

I just wanna know if anyone can tell me what its like and should I feel as scared as what I do? If I admit myself, will i still have some control over what they recommend?

I want to admit myself in the morning but I just want to see if anyone can help answer my question, before I do so.

Hi @Leesu

I had a premmie - 4 weeks early - and this is a major shock to the system - and like me - you already have another child

Two is harder than one - most of us can tell you this I think

It seems you might have Post Partum Depression - of course I can't be sure - but it is a possiblity - and it sounds as if you need to be in hospital although no one can tell you that

That was pretty dramatic - and scary - you need to be safe and sound to care for your kids -

All the best with that - and thanks for telling us - and if you can please keep in touch

@Leesu. I recently went to hospital voluntarily. I have depression & anxiety & ptsd. My depression was spiraling out of control. Could have spent forever in bed but then I had suicidal thoughts and they scared me. I went to my gp & got a referral. Took 5 days to get me a bed. Those were hard days trying to keep myself safe. The minute I was at the hospital I was relieved. I knew I would get help. My initial 10 day stay turned into 26 days. I was safe. I was supported. I attended therapy sessions daily. I spoke with other patients and discovered that I was not alone and not 'crazy'.
It was the best decision I've made. I came out feeling stronger and safer. I believe I owe that hospital stay with saving my life.
Go to hospital. Get treated and start feeling better. Be safe and be supported.
I'd love to hear from you .
All the best

Thank you everyone, you made this desicion so much easier.

I had a phone call from my GP this morning asking if I could come in. Which was out of the blue but she wanted to touch base with me.

She made an urgent referral for me to the local Mental Health Service and I was contacted within 30mins of leaving the Doctor Surgery.

From my understanding they are making arrangements so I can go in on Monday where I can link with the Psychiatrist.

My Psychologist contacted following the Mental health service called, and she has arranged an appointment on Friday this week to see me and My Gp has prescribed a calmative for me until I can go in on Monday.

I couldn't believe how it all happened but it made me feel good to know that I haven't slipped through the cracks and they are following up with me.

I don't have enough words to say how much i aapreciate your support and thank you so much for sharing your stories. You've all truly made it feel like a normal thing and that I really shouldn't be scared.

I promise to stay safe and keep you posted with my progress.

Support which made it easier. I attended the appointment although i was 20 mins late. I told her whats been going on and well after we were done i felt lighter and that im on the right path to healing. I even had a look in one of the shops after my appointment. Which most of the time im just wanting to run straight back home and skeep for the rest of the day. All in all the day turned out to be wonderful.
