Looking after our wellbeing

Looking after our wellbeing

Have still been having problems with bad back pain and took myself in hand to make

another GP appointment to find out what may be causing such prolonged discomfort.

Often times we may feel we're making a big deal about a health problem and we're

reluctant to do something positive about same. We owe it to ourselves, familyand friends

to see our physical as well as mental health is treated with respect and to seek help

for either condition or both. Bimby2

Re: Looking after our wellbeing

Glad you are taking it seriously @Bimby2

Our backs connect our whole body and therefore our whole experience and thus all our stressors to our brain for integration ..(processing?)

I know its saying the obvious but ..

cheers Apple

Re: Looking after our wellbeing

HI @Bimby2

I have inoperable problems in my lumbar spine and I don't know how but for years it was not really taken seriously - I was given exercises by a physiotherapist - and luckily for me - I continued doing them until I injured my spine and I have had to deal with chronic pain ever since

But had I not done those exercises - for years and years - I would have been far worse off

And treatment for many things now has a preventive component - so yes - take care of it now - and I don't know what has happened to you back or how long you have had it

But back pain and/or spinal pain is a very common problem - and most of it stems for the L4/L5 disc - which for some reason causes more pain and trouble than any other

Let's know how it all goes

Re: Looking after our wellbeing

My back's been effing up too. Studies allegedly show that people with a mental illness don't take care of their physical health as much as others. Maybe if all of our physical symptoms weren't dismissed as being 'all in our heads'??? 😛

If you do a swift google around for back exercise rehabilitation, you might find some gentle exercises to try (with due caution) at home.

Re: Looking after our wellbeing

Hi @Bimby2

Thanks so much -

I don't know where you live but Melbourne has had one of the coldest days on record - icy freezing rain and wind - arck - worst weather for back/spinal pain and other pain for that matter

Caring for myself to keep myself mobile is a top priority for me - I walk whenever I can - something not likely to happen much in this weather - but the best exercise for me

I see a pain specialist and I have had all possible tests - including 2 MRSs - and so I am lucky in that way - there is no doubt in anyone's mind that my pain is in my spine - but I wouldn't wish that on anyone

But people are told it's all in their heads - they say that about people's migraine sometimes too - and it must be so frustrating and even humiliating to be told that the pain is just in your head

In Australia we are bettere off than people in the States - we have access to more medication and treatment - but for me everything is regularly updated every 6 months - not everyone can get that kind of help even here

But yes - we do need to care for our health - and when the emotional world becomes rough and spiky - inside and out - we do not care for ourselves as well as we should

Survival is the name of the game - being kind to ourselves and giving our souls' a rest is a good idea

And thanks @Bimby2
