Applying for jobs while depressed

Applying for jobs while depressed

I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but I'm struggling with this. Depression Lies. How do you write job applications while depression is telling you that you're worthless? Particularly when there's a question that's new or seems new, one you can't adapt from a previous application. (Customer service attributes, and management attributes, if anyone wants to share specific ideas!)

Re: Applying for jobs while depressed

give me the question and I'll write something for ya!

It's tough. When I need to write when depressed I tend to take it super slow. Break it up, use dot points to note down ideas and then write. Take a break. Come back and revise. Another break. Then proof then send.

Hi @CannonSalt,

yes, that is a very difficult question. I would look up examples of ideal job application letters/question answers on the internet. You should find something that sounds right and you can then just adapt it for your purposes.

If in doubt, maybe write the question here and we can try and answer it for you.

Customer service attributes-

you could write that you are personable, approachable, empathetic, a good listener, a 'people-person', mature-minded, experienced in conflict resolution and flexible.

(One of my previous bosses said that they always look for someone who claims to be 'flexible'.)

Management attributes-

experienced in the industry (state how many years experience), able to multi-task, able to work independently, resourceful, have had leadership roles in the past (not necessarily in paid employment- you could have had a volunteer role that involved leadership), ability to delegate and trouble-shoot. Willing to take on extra study.

Thank you all for your perspective and experience. I dredged up 3 attributes I had in each category and 3 I was still working on developing. I don't have a lot of the key ones they're looking at, even if I were looking at myself with rose-coloured glasses. Still, you've got to be in it to win it. On to the next application!
