Hospital or manage at home !

Hospital or manage at home !

Hi Guys !

I'm feeling a bit down today after yesterday and cancelling my admission to hospital for a few reasons. Now I have a mixture of emotions, and worried I will not be able to go back into hospital if I need to.

The reason I didn't go into hospital because my dad convince I don't need to go in to hospital, and the reason behind this I believe is that he didn't want my mum up at my place looking after my dog. He always tells me their is nothing wrong with me etc. And his preference is the dog should go into kennels and I don't want this because the dog is getting older and has had major surgery, chemo and numerous operations in the last 3 & half years, and three of those in the last 6 months.

I find when my parents were with my yesterday, I did get quite anxious and my dad analyses everything and makes me anxious and angry. I actually really don't like this, I don't understand why it affects me so much. He will even comment on how the dog drinks her water (gulps). I'm thinking so what she as been for a walk and she is thirsty. Those things seems to get to me because I just see him picking at things all the time and that is just one example I can think of now.

I plan to phone the clinic on Tuesday and try to plan an admission into the clinic later in the year. I'm not sure what to do about the dog?

Sorry guys for ranting and not expressing myelf too well. Im not sure what to think when he always tell me their is nothing wrong with me etc.

@Sahara

People think they are so right with all the advice they have for us - and sometimes - alas - they can get all hoity-toity when we find our way

We have to listen to our heart - the rest of the world can be wrong for us - and then their is that old saying

Well - you made your bed and now you must lie in it

Phewy - my opinion is

I might have made my own bed - but it isn't what I like I can make it again for myself

It's just a pain when people think they know what is right for us -

I am really glad you made your own choices

Re: Hospital or manage at home !

That struck a big chord with me @Decadian

The make your bed and lie in it ... comments were made to my mother .. and unfortunately she passed it on .. it was an excuse of her sister not to give her or us any support or respect apart from one bag of cast off clothes.

@Sahara 's approach about quietly consistently working with her own creativity and avoiding those who sap her confidence is the way to go .. I wish I knew I could get out of the way of confidence sappers earlier on .. but we live and learn.

Hi @Former-Member,

building up my self-confidence has been very difficult as an adult. Firstly, I had to start giving importance to the things I really love to do, like making my artwork, rather than doing the only the stuff other people wanted me to be interested in.

Then I had a lot of counselling, getting used to speaking my truth and finding an authentic voice. I had to learn to put aside other people's opinions and do the things I really wanted to do.

I had to leave a career I hated and leave my ex-partner too, as he really sapped my confidence. I had to learn to turn away from people who I found negative and non-supportive... and that still isn't easy. Sometimes, I had to even disregard the advice of people who I like and respect, such as my sister.

Well-meaning people are always ready with advice. But you have to learn to listen to your own intuition and do what you must. Do it quietly and consistently and keep reminding yourslef that you live this life for only one person - yourself.

I don't thnk I will ever be a very confident adult. But at least now I can respect myself and feel some contentment.

Hi @Sahara

You are right its not easy to build confidence and the only way I know how to increase my confidence is through taking action. For me I am huge people pleasing and have been like this from as long as I can remember, and I am trying to work on that, and to realize I can't please everyone, and the person I should be looking after is myself.

I am so happy to hear you reached out for support to be able to find your own voice and to find your own truth and to do things you love. I believe, you are really brave and courageous to take the steps you have taken, and try to heal yourself by looking for answers from within. I know its not easy to take the path you have choosen and to leave jobs and to break up with a partner because they took away your confidence.

I have always been able to speak the truth but have lacked self belief and always put others first. I am slowly changing this. You have made some really good points about people giving advice, and when people give advice and most of the time it comes from a place with good intentions, and its great that you can listen to advice and work out what is good for you and what is not- who knows the advice they give you today might be something that you mite be able to use later down the track. Hope that makes sense.

I hope over time you can become more confident and that might still happen. I've lack some confidence of late but I am determine to put myself out there and slowly build myself up.

Hi Oceangirl, sorry my reply is late, but i found a website called, dont fret pet which is aussie wide, where the boarding is done by fellow dog lovers at home.Maybe you could also ask your vet who treated your dog if they know of any options for when or if you need to go to hospital? i find my cats Vet and the other staff were so helpful and loved their furbabies as much as i did. I am sorry you did not feel supported when you wanted to go to hospital. Are you under 25? Do you have a Headspace near you? Or, you could go to their web: eheadspace.org for advice, they can help both you and your parents. Another option is to talk to your doctor about why you didnt go and if you still want to, the doctor could help as well. I hope this may help. Bye for now! 1stepup
