Re: Sleeping too much
Hi @TAB
That kind of medication can make the pain easier to live with - and give us quality of life - but they can't give people enough to take the pain away entirely - that kind of medication is something our bodies get used to - so we need break-through medication at times - but I am nearly always uncomfortable - but that's not the same as the screaming pain that can happen if I get some kind of jolt
But that's why we need pain clinics - with specialists who monitor the pain and the medication
It's a tricky path

Hi @Former-Member
How do we monitor pain? Sticky question - ah - they ask
"Where on a scale of 1 - 10 is your pain atm?"
And what the %&$( does that mean?
D'uh - for some people 8 might mean admission to hospital in an ambulance with IV medication and sirens even - instant attention in resus - a private room in a public hospital and lots of tablets and injections and attention with people constantly asking that question looking worried
In other cases and 8 will get you one tablet of a very ordinary nature
But I guess they have to find some way of working it out
I don't know about hypochondriacs - hell - what does that mean even?
Okay - I have a dictionary and guess what it means - of course- the obvious - abnormal concern for one's health but the word comes from the Late Latin "abdomen" supposedly the seat of melancholy and I could go on about the meaning of melancholy too - but oh my - it all comes around to a problem that galls me - our insides are out of whack and I could be humourous about the subject - or satirical - or even sarcastic - but people who are ill and no one can work out why are put in the too hard basket and given rude names and treated than "less than"
I guess that rings bells
And yes @Former-Member and @TAB - we can have tests done for free in a public hospital but we have to wait for years for that sometimes - the torn tendons in my right shoulder healed up in the 9 months I was waiting to see the surgeon and it would be a year since I tore them before I would be admitted for day surgery - really - waiting a year before part of a day in a public hospital -
I didn't have the surgery
A neighbour died waiting for surgery in a public hospital - now that is really sad

Re: Sleeping too much
I get a crick in my lower back once a year or so that sends me to bed with a heat pack and heat rub and analgesia for three days .... nothin' on what you guys manage with ....
My D3's knee is recovering fast. Hired crutches yesterday so she could get out and about.
