One hot night a few years ago I notice an orb spider around the security light outside my unit - and of course I didn't think of it during the day - only at night - and one hot night I decided that I had to destroy this ugly brute - and so the next day I was out there with a new can of insect spray to cover a wide area and brought it down with the straw broom and I had thick socks and sturdy sneakers and squished the little so-n-so

I have been bitten twice - once when my father died and again when my mother died and this is strange - was the universe trying to tell me something

So my warning - regardless of the spider - wearing strong stuff on your feet and have plenty of insect spray on hand - and stand well back - though the don't seem that aggressive when they have had a serve of Mo rt ine -

I have web everywhere outside my front door so I am sure the spiders are breeding away happily there - I did clear it all out during the autumn - time to do it again - the front of my unit is protected - I have wide eaves and the weather mostly comes from the west - the back of my unit - there is less web out there

I think spiders ki ll the ants though - there are fewer spiders at the back but lots of ants

I have had two or three wasps' nests here too - the Ministry of Housing looks after me and sends the Health Department out to deal with them - there are some wasps that attack the spiders though - but I am not prepared to risk wasps -

Wild-life - small and sometimes lethal - often beautiful - I could go on and on
