@TAB
I understand .... it's confusing .....
This is an alternative form of eating disorder ..... once it's diagnosed the medical people may be able to tell us "it falls into this category, or that category ...."
Probably easier if you look up EDNOS cos I think that's the closest we can identify, but it may be a form of anorexia or bulimia ....
Eating disorders are not about the food, even though that's the way it seems at first .... and Manirexia is identified as different in that men are usually just as focused on muscle development and obsessive exercise as they are on the food issues ..... but underlying all of that is control and / or anxiety issues .... unresolved emotional issues from childhood or trauma .... personality / identity issues .... something ....
Its often triggered by dramatic weight loss success .... (tick that box here) .... that just keeps going .... and becomes increasingly more obsessive till it's taken over their life ..... (tick that box too).
Eating disorders try to conceal themselves .... they need to remain hidden ... secretive .... so the first wall of defence is denial .... the second is hostility. When we couldn't flag down medical assistance, cos if you don't know about all the behaviours it just seems really health focused, high level of self-discipline, etc especially as all the medical results were so dramatic it took him off previous medications associated with obesity illnesses, we tried to press him to get help and he created mayhem as a defence. If we didn't back off, we would have imploded .... everything .... kids mental health .... schooling .... relationships .... household .... everything ....
Basically we have to let it run its course .... law protects his rights unless he becomes psychotic .... so even as his wife I can't intervene .... only thing I can do is leave him .... but he's not emotionally stable ... and that would implode everything anyway.
Running its course .... it's possible he can reach the next stage of the cycle of change - "Contemplation" - before he suffers a major health crisis .... has been suffering minor ones, but he can't recognise them for what they are cos he's in denial about being unwell .... so there has to be some other explanation ....
We just interact functionally ... getting on with running a family and household .... and ignore the elephant in the room as much as possible .... but like with the airport .... lots of lifestyle crisis management happening .... and we are all battling against circumstantial depression. Lots of passive-aggressive controls to deal with. Blindsided with mood swings etc or faulty reasoning and the odd delusional moment .... like living with a stranger who looks like him and often acts like him, but the person we knew is absent ....
Have been advised by support services that there is likely more going on with him than just the eating disorder .... but can't get any clarity until we move beyond this "Pre-contemplation" stage.

Re: Sleeping too much
I've observed your style long enough to get the flow!
@Faith-and-Hope, pretty major. So worrying. Gosh no words. I think your husband is lucky he hasn't you. At the end of the day, you would know him best, his absolute limits, capabilities. It's very hard to watch a loved one go underneath you, with nothing to effectively help, other than be there.
It's a very sad disorder. I can't help but feel more so for a man.
