Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

@Molliex I am sorry for your loss. 💞💞💞

I don’t think any of your feelings are silly , and feeling something that was something to you, even though you might not know what you were feeling, is a big feel. I have had pregnancies and lost the baby, you grieve, just like everyone.

Allow yourself to do that.

If you choose to have more children, enjoy what you can along the journey.

The rainbow pic you posted is hope. Hold that.

Seeing your psychologist on Monday might be well timed. I hope so.

Sending you a big long squishy hug, even in isolation. 💜💜💜💜💞💞💞💞

Thanks @Angels333 . I am honestly still dealing with the trauma from that pregnany and the health problems I had afterwards. Yes, she is 100% worth that, but it still impacts me now.

Yes, i think I do want another kid. But your'e right, I am scared.

I appreciate that you're always here for me x

Thank you @Maggie for your kind words. It feels less like a loss and more like a lost chance or opportunity...i don't know if that makes sense. I think it will be really valuable to talk it through with my psychologist. I have already sent him an email with points of discussion for our appointment, so he will be prepared.

Hugs x

@Molliex I'm sorry your first pregnancy left you traumatised, physically and emotionally, it's such a difficult thing to cope with. I wish I could say any future pregnancy will be easier but I don't really know. All you can do is push forward with an awareness you didn't have the first time x

@Molliex Hi Molliex having a miscarriage at any stage is an awful thing to have happened. My condolences. As for trying again that is completely up to the both of you. I am not here to judge as long as you are safe and sound that is all that pea cares about. Take good care of yourself. Your friend peaxx

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

I am so very sorry @Molliex for your loss.

You are right in that few people talk about the very early losses. But miscarriages are quite common in the first trimester. I think thats why most people dont announce pregnancies until a couple of months on. Just to get through that initial danger period.

But its also very well accepted that the sense of loss felt by those experiencing a miscarriage is very real. Of course you are allowed to grieve this loss. It actually was something, and had the potential to grow into a beautiful baby Molliex. Your fears around another pregnancy are legitimate, given your previous difficulties. You say you have some guilt issues to work around? I do hope you are not feeling any guilt around the loss of this pregnancy. Any fears or insecurities you may have about having another baby, had nothing to do with this loss.

I'm glad you will be able to work through all of this with your psych next Monday. I am very sorry you are feeling as you are, but it is very understandable. Take the time to grieve .. I think its very important to do so. This has definitely been a very real loss. Love and hugs to you ...
