Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Thank you @Angels333 . I am doing OK today. Just knowing I have the psych on Saturday and my GP on Tuesday is providing me some relief. I am still really worried about managing my stress and SI while I am away without my supports. I've made lots of plans with friends and family this weekend to try and keep myself busy.

I am worried about you though and sending you all the strength I have to give. Please keep psoting and check in when you need. Tag me and I'll be here for you x

So I went to my GP about my ecg results showing heart disease and he's sending me to the cardiologist. The appointment is on the 18th October. I'm frustrated that I can't be on a proper therapeutic dose of my antipsychotic until I get the all clear. But deep down I am worried that I won't be cleared for this antipsychotic and I'll have to start the whole process again to find another one that doesn't affect heart rhythms

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

I have hear of this before @Angels333
Some antipsychotics can do that. Mine does I know for a fact.
Take it easy on yourself my friend.
It sounds like you are in a difficult place atm so the last thing you need to do is let it affect you too much.
Idk what else to say my friend

It's concerning hey @TAB , sorry to hear that you are having circulation trouble. My GP kept asking if I have chest pain, and I'm like nope! I'm seriously stressed about it as I'm only 42 but my brother died at 36 with severe coronary artery disease.

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Thanks for the support @MDT I'm just tired of being in crisis with SH A good dose of antipsychotic might just quell that. But alas it's coming up to 5 weeks off meds and I'm a mess and struggling to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
