Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Thanks for your review @MDT . I really like stuff from this director, what you're saying sounds true to his story telling style.

I love space films and I love spy movies, stuff like Oceans 11, Spy Game, Tinker Tailor Soilder Spy, etc.

Hello all. I thought i would let you know I have an assessment with the acute care team at the hospital on Monday. I think it will be quite difficult, but going to do my best to be honest so that they can help me. I can't wait months for a private psychatrist appointment.

Unfortunately I've just found out my Grandmother is dying and has weeks to live. I lost my other Grandmother in February, so this is a real blow. My daughter is named after her, she's so special to me. She's back home in my home country, so i can't just pop up the road to see her. I have a planned holiday there in 3 weeks, but it might not be soon enough to see her. Not sure if I can afford to change flights etc. to get there earlier. This year really sucks.

Just feeling so incredibly sad and overwhelmed. Going to go to the gym for a run and then have a drink with a friend. Need to decompress before going home tonight. I can't be a mum right now.

Its a very difficult time for you. Thinking of you. It’s beautiful that your daughter is named after your grandmother. I am named after my grandmother and my granddaughters middle name is mine.
