Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Edit: This has evolved to become a vent thread and supportive thread. Everyone is welcome to come, vent. say hello, and especially seek support with their intrusive thoughts.

--

I've been newly diagnosed with GAD, depression and OCD. I'm in my mid 30s and have been dealing with this stuff my entire adult life. The tipping point was severe post natal depression that I almost didn't survive. I'm getting help for me, but also because I don't want my kid to pick up my issues.

Often my intrusive thoughts are about world events, but at the moment they're suicidal. They push their way into everything i do/think and I'm so exhausted, just trying to ignore them. It's scary and I'm suffering insomnia. I'm currently off work for this week while I adjust to new meds, and my GP and psychologist are suggesting hospitalisation.

I've been trying mindfulness and exercise, as well as limiting alcohol (which I find hard).

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions and support. This mental health journey is so new for me and I feel very alone. I want to make it through this.

Thanks for reading, I really appreciate it. I just also want to state that I am currently safe and with family.

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Thanks for the update @Molliex I am sorry things are so difficult. Its really hard paying so much money to get good help for mental health issues. I hope you can work out the best path for yourself and your daughter.

I am glad you have a doctor you have faith in, that's one up compared to a lot of us here.

Take care and keep reaching out for support if you need to.

😊❤️💐💐🍀

@Molliex
Take it a day at a time. Even just an hour at a time if you have to my friend.
During the times in my life when I have been in strife and navigating the realities of mental health.
You sound like you have a plan for help which is progress in itself my friend.

Hey @Molliex , I'm hearing you re the increase in private health insurance. I went through the same thing two years ago. We had to pay more for insurance then wait two months to go to hospital. The wait was stressful when I was so unwell, I'm so sorry to hear how you're going, it breaks my heart xx

I hope the new med helps in the meantime while you wait to get into a good psychiatrist.

Sending hugs

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

@Molliex You are in my thoughts Molliex. I really feel overwhelmed with where you aree atm. Unfortunately I am of little use except to say that try breaking things up into segments. Like would you consider a public hospital stay over a private? If not then private it is. Then if private is way to expensive then look for a psychiatrist of which is hard as they are hard to find and are expensive as you have stated. To be honest too you want a good psychiatrist not just any one either so be fussy.

I can understand that you are feeling like you are drowning under the weight of it all. Then there is the tiredness (which I know only too well). Sheesh I dont think I have helped at all :(. Except to say that I am listening and am here with you. Love peaxx

Thanks @Gazza75. I'm aware how lucky I am to have such a good GP. He even teaches other GPs about MH and I know he truly cares about me. Obviously, not bulk billed though, so another cost..

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

Thanks @Angels333. It sucks its so damn hard and so expensive to get good help. Going to call my insurance tomorrow to find out exactly what the costs would be. Hopefully I can find a psychiatrist that can see me this year (!!!!!). Hugs 🌻💕

Re: Dealing with intrusive thoughts - my struggle!

You have helped @Bunniekins. I can't tell how much you care, and that means so much. 💕

Unless I present as an immediate safety threat, public isn't really an option. There's a specific programme my GP thinks would really help me at a private hospital nearby.

Finding psychiatrist is the first step. Trying to stay out of the darkness.. 🌻🌼
