Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Hi @Mandy1, I agree with what @Queenie say said

I am wondering too if the specialist have talked to you too about her coming home

I remember when my husband was coming home , and the specialist told me things to help when he came home , I was still anxious and worried

Hi @Mandy1 and welcome to the forums.

That sounds like it has been a really difficult time for you, and it’s so hard waiting on outcomes. Our family has finally come into the care and under investigation by therapists after an eight year struggle, and not only do we not have answers yet, I don’t know how long this process is going to go for either. The not knowing is perhaps the hardest part.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Queenie thankyou for your reply - my partner has a psychiatrist she normally sees and has booked to see him already in about a week so that is great - she has yet to find a psychologist tho - but she said the psychologist at the hospital told her how to find an appropriate psychologist for her needs ... I have a psychologist I’ve seen twice but putting off making next appt for some reason ... guess I need to just make the appt as my self care is something I’m finding hard at the moment ... Did you find having a plan helped you as a carer ?

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Faith-and-Hope I will ask if I can see the psychiatrist at hospital Friday morning when I go to pick her up as I have not had any such session about her discharge and I’m definitely feeling out of the loop -... last time ten years ago when she came out of a clinic it was too early and it was a disaster at home the subsequent days - I really hope this time will be totally different

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

I'm not actually the primary carer in my relationship @Mandy1. Although we are having a bit of a role reversal at the moment while my carer (my Mrs) battles her own mental health issues. In answering your question though, a plan is crucial. You need to know a checklist of everyday things in order to stay well as well as a relapse prevention checklist. It could be simple as getting out of bed and getting dressed, making a meal, taking medications, going to appointments etc etc. We both have a wellness plan which identifies things we can do each day for better mental health, as well as things we can do when the wheels start to fall off so to speak. Hopefully a support worker can be assigned to your partner and they can work on developing a wellness plan for both of you.
