Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Glad to hear that you are handling things @Anony18. Going to the gym is a good distraction and probably better than eating a tub of ice cream or are you doing that too? 😆

Best to surround yourself with people who won't upset you. They may mean well but it might come out in a not old way as you have seen.

The old avoidance thing can be really tough especially when you are on the receiving end. I've just been through all that.

At least you know where things are at which must be a huge load off your mind. Keep things light between the two of you.

Thanks @Determined - yeah it is 12 hours face to face or an e-learning then half day face to face. Will research a bit more and decide what best to do. The hard bit is that if it is during my working hours. I really want to do it though given what been through, people I met and I think it be a good skillset to have in society.

@Anony18

Course I did was mental health first aid Australia 3rd edition. Was well worth the effort.

Mental first aid course sounds interesting @Determined@Anony18. Might check that out and see if it's offered where I am.

@soul - been playing tennis and have dance that I think trying to eat a tub of ice cream has not been on the plates. You know the funny thing, my Now Friend commented yesterday how he thinks I lost weight >.< So maybe if I have I could afford that tub of ice cream eh hahahahaha.

It is a tough one but as he explained it - though was not right at same time you are like "well makes sense you ain't responding if you aren't bothering check your phone. The good thing is he recognised how it was unfair and that he actually messaged me first which I guess is an implication he wants me around and I mean something to him.

It is a massive load of my mind knowing where I stand. Knowing that I done all I could and knowing that we are still in each other's lives and I can still support him but in a different level of relationship.

Good that you have found some peace. Effective communication, respect and trust are vital in any relationship. Great too that you have other interests that you pursue as they act as distractions. You'll be fine @Anony18

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Determined @Anony18; I did the Mental Health First Aid course a year or two ago. Also found it helpful for myself as well as for better supporting family and friends. I felt a bit like an odd one out because most of the others were teachers or worked in professions where they had lots of public contact. Because I was doing it for supporting family, it was a little more "close to home" for me.

@Smc @soul @Anony18

I have since done a similar course, conversations for life, that one while still very good was not nearly as good as the mh first aid training.

I am fortunate in that I can do courses like these through the University at no cost.

I was also the odd ond out @Smc as majority of students in the group were studying nursing or education so doing it for career benifits while I was doing it for personal reasons.
