Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

I know what you mean @Former-Member about getting rid of books. It's like saying goodbye to old friends. I just don't have the room in this apartment. I tend to read a lot from the internet or ebooks these days but there's that nice comforting feeling about turning a page.

Posted same time as you @soul 😛

missed the acceptance bit @Former-Member OMG that's HUGE. I ditto what soul said. Acceptance isn't a passive thing, it's a huge step.

@soul @Spookytookims
It is Mr Darcy that is the relapse risk, won't go into his history here, but needless to say it has been a long and difficult road and I guess the test of this acceptance will be if he does go into crisis again.

Less of the serious stuff here though - am sure I read somewhere it is scientifically proven that you take more in reading from a paper book than an e-book.

Been a bit like @Shaz51, more magazine than book reading of late.

Hey funny you say that about the reading absorption electronic vs paper mediums @Former-Member Did a mini report on that in my behavioural classes. Turns out it has to do with people's perspective of electronic medium is more to skim, it's all to do with social media and byte size info expectations, wheras perception still lays with books being for reading and gaining knowledge.

Interestingly for me, when I did the experiment I had similar absorption patterns from both. Think it is because of the way I use the net compared to most people. For me it is literally the information highway, I barely use the social media side at all. Ok ironic because I guess Im typing on a forum right now that could ostensibly fall under that banner, but for me this is still as much educational as social if you get what I mean.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Former-Member, can thoroughly relate. I'm going for a Job Capacity Assessment tomorrow for DSP due to depression, and the depression is very largely the result of ongoing stress from caring for a daughter with a serious MI, and parents who have now gone into an aged care home but refused help for way too long. I've got a fairly long spiel about all of that in this thread, which might be a helpful one for you too.

@Spookytookims, I use the internet as a source of info too. I am on a social media site, but I use it more for sharing around ideas or images that I find inspiring. Very little personal info goes up, very few personal photos, but at the same time you could learn a lot about me by watching how I interact with my various online connections.

And yeah, our family are bookhounds. 😄 I love a good bookshop or book fair, particularly the ones with lots of secondhand books so that you can find one-offs, or that out of print book you've been chasing for ages.

I've dropped off on novel reading over the past couple of years. Maybe the sustained involvement in an invented drama is unhelpful when there's too much real life drama happening already. The books will be there waiting for me when I'm ready. All sorts.. poetry, gardening, cookery, art, fine craftwork, history, theology, sociology, sustainability... if the worldwide web ever dies, we'll have plenty to fall back on.
