Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Hi @Former-Member

If I had that little TS Eliot quote to read .. I might have been able to keep things simple

.. had to read "The Wasteland" at uni .. which is not very clear or uplifting .. and I thought it was my fault I could not understand it .. had to learn and grow more ..

what should be on pedestals and wot knocked off .. one professor called the great poet a grumbling grouse ...

Ahh .. headache .. but at least I can verbalise it now... nor did it help me stop my sister from SH at the time ... that was when information was harder to come by .. when I was 24

my sister did lit before me .. I was still in science strand .. thank you for posting that .. as now I realise some of the complications that were running around in her head back then. Helps me heal a little .. I can partly "blame" over inflated literature ..

much easier to get potted versions .. with explanations on the net

@Former-Member... Your little novella makes sense. Have been there before, and the relief of surfacing! It doesn't mean it's all over, but it's similar to what doctors call a "turning point". I'm in a different kind of hard spot now, and the "turning point" hasn't quite presented itself yet, but I've been getting reminders that it will do so- your very visual parable among them. 🙂

Hello all. Have been out and about today with our local garden club. Came home with some windfalll apples and pears that will hopefully turn into some nice preserves, and a young fig tree that will hopefully produce yummy fruit for us in a few years. Will have to keep the local wallabies off it while it gets started. They're such cuties, and half tame, but no good for the fruit trees.

Hi @Appleblossom

The Old Possums Book of Practical Cats is the extent of my TS Eliot experience and that only after attending the musical ...

lol @Former-Member

I have never had the spare money to go to Cats .. but students did .. and i have a book of the music in my teaching collection... so could indulge them

It just helps me understand her in that she .. kept speaking about literary symbols .. and I came from more sciencey background then .. different outlooks .. we never really argued .. but too much going on ..

I do like things simple .. but it isnt always the way life is

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

wow @Former-Member and @Appleblossom I love things like that. I find them great to meditate on.

I hold say one poignant or piquant line in my mind and just focus on what it might mean in my world, what its real relevance is to me.

Sometimes this takes a number of sessions, sometimes it slots in while I dream, as I'm falling asleep or when I have just woken. But once it slots in and I have that "aha" moment, I feel it. Rinse and repeat until all the nuance is milked from the parts that grabbed me, parts I initially did not understand but was instinctively drawn. To me that's the insight being gained.

After that, everything is "right" because I have taken someone else's discernment, interpreted it and slotted it into my own narrative in my own way.

While ostensibly the original may appear not to match the final interpretation, always in my mind at least, I have held to the perceived intent. That is to say the new understanding only formulated because of the imparted gem. It's a process I use.

The intent is the hidden treasure, well that's how I think of it anyhow. Once we decipher the intent we can see the true beauty, often genius, of what to us was the author's intent.

I think it is akin to standing in front of a painting and trying to work out what the artist was saying.

It may, at it's core be quite obvious, but the conscious recognition of the process is quite complex.
