Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

@Appleblossom, interesting thing about that painting is that it's a modern painting (1999) done in "Old Masters" style, which makes it easy to completely overlook the fact that the butter is in modern foil wrapping, and the eggs are in a transparent plastic six-pack.

Ahh @Smc

Milk & Honey

The title also distracts from the discrete Modern items planted in it.

interesting

My uncle was a Still life copyist .. in oils

I made a still life tapestry .. it suits my kitchen ..

Love that "Old Masters" still life @Smc .... 😊💕

Thanks for sharing .... and I love the humour of it .... with foil and plastic making it contemporary in fact ....

I have often thought that when I look at street scenes in old paintings, full of Georgian architecture, horses and carriages, and red-canopied bistros .... our equivalent would be painting cars and motorcycles, high-rise buildings, and coffee shops with shade sales .... I know there are some artists who do that, but I might have a go at it in "Old Masters" style .... something to keep in mind if I do end up going back and completing qualifications ...

@Faith-and-Hope OK, I'm curious- what are your unfinished qualifications?

I've got a Diploma Vis. Arts- Ceramics, but everything that's happened over the past 5-6 years has meant it's gone on hold. The kiln is sitting empty and the gas bottles have returned to the supplier... One day I'll get back to it, but no idea when. In the meantime, I do enjoy looking at other people's artisitc creations. (This one's by a U.S. painter, Daniel Gerhartz.)

I love the girl's knees poking through jeans .. with the general lush brushwork and gas lamps.

Dont give up hope that you will get back to your kiln.

@Appleblossom, Thanks. I haven't given up hope, but realistically, it won't be for a while yet. It would be unwise to push myself into it when it would seem like yet another demand. Will wait until it can be a pleasure again.

I'm a visual artist @Smc .... a painter primarily, but I can draw anything that is in front of me at the drop of a hat .... so Bachelor of Fine Arts in some form ....

Love that painting too .... ❤️🎨💕

Still life with roses by Gustave Beinvetu ......

"Good morning" everyone .....

I'm that page @Smc .... I am doing some art sometimes, but my heart isn't free for it at the moment .... and my support systems are not in place to enable formal study.

@Faith-and-Hope Yep, not a fun spot to be in. When the creative urge grabs me, I pick up something that can be done in bits and pieces instead, such as a sewing project. And often small handsewn pieces are useful "on the move' projects. I get a lot done while sitting on trains and in waiting rooms, and it's a good converstaion starter too.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Yes .... I'm using "surrogacy" too .... doing creative things here and there, as and when .... intended to be doing some more artwork here with the kids now that we are stationery for a bit, but this flu has thrown a spanner in those works ..... we did manage some on our travels this time, have to get back to finishing one I started before we leave, hopefully.

Have just woken up again, showered, dressed .... sat down to a cup of tea ...

Anyone want one ?
