Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Shaz51 - my many many activities do help. The dance classes, tennis on Thursdays and even just sitting on the beach alone. Even though i feel sad and miss my partner somehow being in nature makes it ok? Don't ask me why.....but maybe I should just live under the stars - might make this flatness feeling disappear haha.

To be honest I love looking after others and caring for others. People confide in me, even stangers funnily enough. Maybe that is why with my partner it is the sadness of not only missing him but the hard fact of not understanding "why don't you talk to me and want me to care for you and be a positivity, to help you get you through this!" But I know only he can help himself and hope and pray with time he gets there.

Don't think it sounded too irish. Are you Irish by any chance? xx

Oh wow @Anony18, I didn't realize he is also overseas.
Hmm yes definitely better face to face.
It's not the same without body language telling you answers too!
Is is holidaying to have a break from caring for family, work or to escape all his problems you think?
It's a tricky situation and really all you can rely on now is trusting your heart.
Always follow heart I think. It leads you, to where you need to go. 😊

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Yes @Former-Member - he been travelling overseas on and off the past couple months. He comes back for a bit and then leaves again. He was meant come back for my dance concert a few weeks back and he said cause his holiday was crap he is planning head out again. Unfortunately his flight got delayed so he wasn't going to make it back in time which caused him to have his rant.

He finished his work contract about 5 months ago. I think that is where the busy-ness of life stopped and he discovered that his mental issues were much greater than he realised. HIs home life hasn't always been the greatest since the dad passed. Mum I believe is undiagnosed depressed. The brother has depresson and PTSD and apparently has been getting worst. So the escape is from everything. But somehow even when overseas I think he doesn't escape it cause he still stays connected to home and so his holiday gets ruined.

If we follow body language it paints a different picture. When saw him last he was very affectionate. And even previously as he went on about cutting ties and not having relationships - he then says he doesn't want talk about it and said let's cuddle

I have a great tendency on following my heart. Sometimes I use my head a bit too.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Definitely hard @Shaz51 to not do "Me Time" especially when you care for others or love caring for others. I know my partner tends to put everyone first. I tend to do that as well. But one thing I learnt the past months is definitely some need some "Me Time" it is always good to do something you love or even just sit, calm down and reflect as you enjoy the atmosphere and surroundings.

Mostly asian in me but dad's side mix of european blood from irish, spanish, portugese. I call myself a rainbow which seems like you are too! Rainbow people are good and interesting - so I tell myself

@Anony18

Cutting all ties sounds strange to me .... but it also sounds like he's too full with issues and being a support and carer in his family situation to extend into a relationship, but if he were free, he would like it to be you .... so in the midst of all of that, he really appreciates having you as a friend who has compassion for his situation, and who he can cuddle with, which is wonderful in the moment.

I might be wrong, but that is my impression from what you have written.

Is that enough for you for now ? Are you prepared to wait for him ?

There is another thread on the Carer forum that cropped up this week from someone who has carried your situation for two years ..... where her boyfriend would pull her close briefly, then push her away and spiral into depression, then surface again and pull her close briefly. She has reached a point where she has determined that she can't live like that and has insisted on him seeking diagnosis and treatment, or she won't continue in a relationship with him ....

Just putting that out there because it is something you need to consider for the longer term. It's different when there is a diagnosis and support / treatment, otherwise you are living the mi along with him .... take it from me ....

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

It sounds like he is in a hard place, and so are you @Anony18..
I've been there before, & did follow my heart into territory I never thought I'd go.
It really is about trusting yourself enough to go there...in my case I think I lost my way, in multiple ways.
Hmm yep I'm hearing that he is very afflicted.
I think from my experiences, I'd say to myself back then 'remember to nurture your own heart'.
