Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Oh, I'm ok, very very tired but ok. Garden and pup and new residence has helped a lot. I usually post on 'Good Morning' thread and 'why can't I cope longer' But trying to spread my wings more when able. Thanks for asking @Adge 🌻

Morning everyone 👋💕

Good to hear your brother is on the mend @Adge. I was worried for him and you, but as @Former-Member said, the recovery road will be long and difficult for him 😔

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi @Former-Member No agency has ever been willing to intervene with my family.

As a teen, a Psych Nurse, a Social Worker (& several others) came to our home - & identified that we were seriously neglected, & in a dangerous living environment (for various reasons).

They took no action, there was no intervention.

My brother lives on his own in public housing - for the sole reason that all group homes (supported accommodation) said that they were too full, & refused him entry (when Mum applied).

He has a carer come to help with cleaning, & gets meals on wheels delivered - yet he often goes out, & is not home to receive the service.

It's a sad fact that if my brother was in supported accommodation (not on his own) - the accident would never have happened (would have been averted).

I had a 2nd Date with an online dating lady yesterday. We got on well, though she does not seem interested in meeting again.

Oh @Adge, that's very sad... your childhood and family traumas... disempowering so difficult to regain. 💜💙

Now would be a good time to approach the hospital and advocate for your brother to be put into supported living. You need to ring the hospital and speak with the social worker. The senior RN should be able to arrange this for you. Tell them he cant go home the way it is (they have a duty of care not to discharge patients back into harms way).. As his brother you have sway. Also, don't forget to leave a paper trail, even emails to back up what was said in conversation. Email to my dad's care supervisor... works every time

Thanks @Former-Member

Hi @Smc It was mostly on the Long Rave thread - also in the Worry Room.

About 2 weeks ago (Friday night), he caught himself on fire whilst cooking.

My brother is blind since birth, & is intellectually disabled - so he wouldn't have realised that he was on fire until too late, then couldn't put it out.

He was in ICU in a major hospital for about 1 & 1/2 weeks, on breathing & feeding support (tubes).

He had several skin graft operations.

Now he's out of ICU, but will be in the burns unit for several more weeks.

He still has a feeding tube, but can now breathe on his own - he can now speak, & can now respond to people (he was heavily sedated before).

Thanks for your interest.

That's a hard thing for him to go through @Adge, and you as well. 😞 I hope this does get extra support in place for him, but yeah, it would have been better if it hadn't come to such a point.
