Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Best I can claim is sneaking a square of chocolate into my mouth during yesterday's sermon... a choc ripple bikkie with the after church cuppa... and a Tim Tam after dinner. Hmm, more than I thought. 😛

@Former-Member I am going to join @Former-Member on the self imposed chocolate ban after hopping on the scales this morning lol.

Hi @Smc @Faith-and-Hope @Former-Member @Adge + anyone else around.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Determined, I've been studiously ignoring the scales for a while now. I figure that I've gained weight because I'm stressed, so rather than increase that stress I'll concentrate on trying to get the motivation back to be active. Which is one reason why I've been trying to do more in the garden.

Losing weight in the past has involved both carefully watching the diet and exercising hard, but I seem to have a good "peasant" metabolism. As soon as I drop back on physical activity a bit, the weight goes on. My theoretical "healthy weight" is almost impossible to maintain (got there once, didn't last), but I would be pretty happy if I got back to within 5-10 kg of it.

Hi @Determined @Faith-and-Hope @Smc @Former-Member @Adge

Ha ha ha ... there is an alternative to ditching the chocolate @Determined .... how about you ditch the scales instead?

I've never taken much stock on what the scales say anyway. I've always been of the opinion that its more about how you feel, rather than what the scales are saying. But I suppose its easy for me to say that, because I am a little underweight and can afford the luxury of chocolate. 🍫

Ditching the scales sounds good @Former-Member, mine are well out as compared the ones at our GP (and not in the right direction). I am a pudding and got that way through stress eating and not exercising.

For me it’s stress hormones that have impacted my metabolism. I eat healthily and walk lots ..... have to keep battling stress into the background, which is hard under our circumstances ..... so stress management strategies are my top priority self-care. I am not a natural worrier or stress-addict ..... but the mi issues we are living with are suddenly and randomly intense, throwing us into damage control.

Chocolate is part of my emergency kit ..... 😏 ..... just not too much of it, and preferably dark.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Faith-and-Hope, @Determined, I think for me it's a bit of both. I mostly eat healthily. If I'm wanting comfort food, it's more likely to be salty carbs like potato chips than chocolate, but even then I don't usually go too over the top with them. I go a bit off sweet stuff when I'm stressed. I love vegs, so our meals are usually heavy on plants and light on meat... middling on carbs.

@Former-Member, my Hubby's got one of those "doesn't gain weight" builds. But again, he has a generally healthy diet (I put lots of plants in his dinner :D) so he's not unhealthily light.

Yup.. it is stress that does it here as well.

Was headed in the right direction but as start of new semester at uni approaches and stress levels go up so does the weight.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

My counselor said to me that he felt once that I got myself into healthier habits that the weight would take care of itself and since needing to walk our dog there was some downward progress between check ups.
