Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Me too @Appleblossom It's often years between hugs.

So I'll happily take cyber hugs, as a substitute.

I missed out on the hippie era, born in 1969 (I was too young).

I always thought I should have been a "flower child", when there was a spirit of change (& enthusiasm) in the air.

Instead of the cold cynicism, that seems so common (& popular) now.

Strangely, most of the idealistic hippie type people of the 1970's - became arch conservatives when they got older (later in life).

I always thought that was a tragedy, it makes no sense at all.

My birds are happily singing @Former-Member They are far more energetic (& vocal) than me, at the moment.

I was just saying hello to my Weiros (Cockatiels).

Squeaker (Weiro) just loves to look at your face (eyes) - he climbs along the wire, following your face & tweeting at you.

He has a real fascination for faces, he just loves looking at you.

It's strictly "No touch" though - if you try to gently touch Sqeaker, he hisses at you (or tries to bite).

@AdgeSome did and some didn't re ... hippies turning conservative. I think it was about rebelling against parents and status quo and then getting their own assets and not wanting to share them ....hmmmm ...

I only got tail end of hippiedom but had older friends ... did not get to enjoy it much irl ... but by time I got to uni ... I found I liked the idea of it ... and with little else to like ... I hung on to that. it was the little bit that connected with my Christian side .....

@Appleblossom, @Adge, a bit of music for you. 🙂

As a '68 baby, I missed the Hippie era too. Some bits of it might have suited me well enough, other bits I'm pretty sure wouldn't have. But even now, I tend to pick and choose from the "spiritus mundi", so I don't think I particularly feel like I fit into a specific generational group.

But I'm not too shy to wear flowers in my hair. 😉

I like it @Smc That's a good song, sounds "folky" (like a folk song).

I've never heard it before (or of Sandi Thom).

@Adge, when there's someone currently in their teenage years in the household, little bits of modern-ish culture seep in with them. 😄 This is a few years old now, so I possibly need to credit my knowledge of it to one of our now-ex-teenagers.

@Smc

Love the song, the floor and the flowers in her (your??) hair. That

I was a between bub, but knew a few punk rockers . .. lived with a girl with blue hair .... a loooooong time ago .... about '84.

The anger and extremism of the dress put me off .. as you had to actually rip the clothes ... I was into dressmaking at the time, you can imagine what I think of actually buying shredded jeans. I only found my anger years later ,,, and it was probably more essential life force otherwise I would be gone.

Without my anger I would not have reconnected with my body or been able to laugh.

Yes, that's me @Appleblossom. The photo is from one of the English teaching trips I did to China. My fellow teacher was showing the students how to make paper flowers, so one of them braided my hair with a few of them. We were having a festival night that night, so I left them in. Spent the night dancing with ribbon sticks and showing the students how to do likewise. Lots of fun. 🙂

(I figured a back view was anonymous enough to post on the forum. )

I can relate to not wanting to tear clothes. I keep teasing my Younger Daughter by offering to repair her trendy ripped jeans. 😛
