Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi All

There is a thread operating on the Lived Experience Forum under Night Shift where members who are having trouble sleeping for any reason give a bit of a shout-out, to see if there is anyone else sleepless and looking for company. It's been such a great thing, I thought I would start one over here too.

I have had the odd few nights where I have woken up on and off, and my kids have been having a bit of trouble some nights too, depending on what has happened during the day.

Being a carer can be lonely too, so if you are making an after-midnight cup of something hot, and wonder who else might be doing that too, maybe have a look-in here and see if anyone else is about.

Hi @Shaz51

My family is pretty big - even though a few have dropped off the tree -

Mum didn't have much family that I knew of - she was standoffish so I was surprised when there were people who had been friends or distant family at her funeral

How is my cat? Oh goody - she lost the bit of weight she had gained without complaining - and this is her - I call the pic Snugly - and that can be her name her - she does have a cat-name she answers to

I am pretlty sure I have posted this but she could be my avatar - I photo shopped this one

Hi @Faith-and-Hope, @Shaz52, @PeppiPatty, @Appleblossom, @Anony18, @Decadian, ... Just popping by for quick cuppa.

Fact for the moment: Did you know putting the milk in before the hot water makes a coffee sooooo much nicer? Apparently, hitting coffee with boiling water brings out the bitterness. Its true.

Hi @Former-Member, great advice xx

Hey @Decadian, families are a funny thing , my dad`s side are strange , my mum`s side are very close and my husband`s family are very quiet

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Hi @Former-Member

When I was a kid my grandmother was boss of the teapot - let no one clean the inside of the tea-pot - that patina on the inside is important to the tea being made properly. The teapot was scalded - and the milk went into the cups first - and I shudder when I think how much tea with lots of sugar we drank - and we were all bean-poles -

Now I prefer coffee but drink about one cup a day - maybe not that much

And I like the bitter tang of coffee

Actually - seeing as I am a wealth of trivial information - when tea and coffee were first luxury items in England - the rich and priviledged did not like the normal bitter taste of tea and coffee and added milk and sugar to suit their taste

What did they drink before then - the water was often pretty icky - I guess they imbibed the fermented grape juice -

But thanks for that info - always happy to add it to my collection of data
