Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Well hello to anyone who's discovered this new thread .... and welcome!!!

For some time I've noticed things are a bit quiet on a Saturday, especially in the evening. So this will be a social gathering for all forumites and hopefully a place to relax and meet friends. It's also a place where you can talk about whatever's going on for you at the moment, safely, and find support.

If you want to bring something to eat or drink that would be welcome, whatever makes you happy.

Actually that may be a good place to start - jump in anywhere and let us know one thing that makes you happy - currently or over time.

Really looking forward to finding a posse to hang with on a Saturday.

L E T ' S P A R T Y !!!

I'm sure there are many I've missed.

And of course the beverage of your choice.

EDIT : Do feel free to contribute some music too. Of any style. The more the merrier ...

Welcome!!!

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Thanks @Bunniekins The unemployment rate is at a record high - the highest in 20 or 30 years (apparently), & getting higher.

All thanks to the forced shut-downs, due to this Virus.

Not a good time to be applying for jobs.

Yet there will be jobs (work).

I will get into that, as soon as I've recovered enough, found my bearings, & have had a bit of a rest (if possible).

Being older is a major disadvantage.

7 years ago, it took me over 6 months (& many interviews) - to get a new job.

This time it may be a long haul, despite my experience.

I was one of the most experienced support workers with my (ex) employer - yet they prefer younger, cheaper (& less experienced) staff.

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Hi @Adge have you considered registering with HireUp or Mabel - all the support workers I know have actually found extra hours work since covid started. And you can choose who you work with, what sort of needs you can meet (i.e. social and community participation, at home physical support ... anything in between) and what hours you want to do and how far you are prepared to travel. They pay better than some major organisations (like Flourish who I was with before) as they have less overheads being an online platform. You need the usual clearances (police, 1st aid, working with children etc) and your own vehicle is a def advantage but once you're up and running you communicate directly with potential clients. At least worth checking out for you I think - your extensive experience will be greatly sought after there. Anyone who is agency or plan managed with NDIS can hire you, or anyone funded other than NDIS. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks @Bunniekins

Thanks @eth

Fall on my feet, Yes - "One Powerball & I'm outa here" (as the saying goes)....

Funny how advertising Slogans work their way into common language (usage).

Just like "Not Happy Jan" (from the Yellow Pages Ad) - I love that one.

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Hi @Adge @Former-Member @Blep @Bunniekins @MDT and others who were here yesterday. Sorry I didn't make it back here late afternoon/evening. I got creative in the big kitchen in the main house... made avocado chocolate mousse with avo's from our tree - sounds weird but it's actually quite yummy - 1st time I've made it. We have so many beautiful avo's, managed to harvest about 3 dozen before the bats/possums/rats got to too many of them, so I've been hunting out unusual avo recipes. Otherwise we just eat guacamole for weeks! Then I did a cauliflower biryani (curry with rice cooked into it, roasted cauli, roast almonds, currants and more) to share with the family - bro, sil and her mum - and they all loved it which is all I can hope for.

Then later on I joined a zoom with the disability alliance crew - Saturday Night Fever - where the themes were brushes with fame and one-hit-wonders. Thanks for the suggestions yesterday I wasn't the only one who had a couple of them. It was good fun hanging out with them. @Maggie @CheerBear @Former-Member @outlander @MDT @Zoe7 (haven't seen you for a while so I hope you're ok) @TAB @Shaz51 @BPDSurvivor @Faith-and-Hope @NatureLover @Appleblossom @Owlunar @Exoplanet tagging you here too - so I don't have to type this again (lazy huh?). Sorry if I've forgotten to tag anyone.

No particular plans for today, which is a good thing. Taking a breath before another biggish week. New psychologist that was meant to start with me on Friday has postponed to June 17th which is really frustrating, but I have ap'ts with GP, support coordinator and 2 support workers this week. Am actually going to go out for a walk with one of them - 1st time since March 18th - day 73 in lockdown now, can you believe it?

Have a nice day everyone - peaceful, restful and satisfying I hope. xoxo

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Hi @eth ... the avo/choc mousse sounds particularly yummy. I have seen a recipe for that somewhere in the past, and thought at the time that it would be really nice. Good to see you recommend it. Now all I have to do is get my avocado tree to start producing! 😊 We have one avo tree, and its never produced. I think there used to be two. And I have read somewhere that you need a second tree otherwise they dont get fertilised or something? Not sure, perhaps you can advise. The biryani also sounds good ... love all the ingredients in it.

Your disability alliance crew Zoom meeting sounds like it should have been fun.

A day without plans is a good thing sometimes .. time to take a breath and take stock of where we're at, and then to plan the week ahead. Sounds like your week is another big one. Sorry to hear that your first appt with your new psychologist has been put back a couple of weeks ... that is frustrating. Especially if the cancellation occurred late in the piece. Your escape from lockdown, via a walk with one of your support workers, sounds like a jolly good idea. I hope the weather is good for it, and that you enjoy the fresh air and nature around you. The weather here has been lovely the past couple of days, although I think there may be a cold change due to come through in a few days time.

Catch you around the traps. Hi everyone else @Adge @Former-Member @Blep @Bunniekins @MDT @TAB
