Hope you're all having a quiet start today. Really nice to see people drop in here on a Saturday evening. I always have good intentions to be here then but either something comes up or I crash out. Sorry I didn't get back here yesterday evening - took a break and then got invited into the main house to have a glass of wine with bro and sil. Life's been super busy for all of us lately so it was good to catch up a little. After that I sat on the bed and fell asleep before it was even 7pm! Sooo tired after the week I had.

All the talk about swimming and mishaps reminded me of something that happened when I was about 13. I was white water rafting on the Roper River with a group from Venturers. (These days famous for its crocs, but that's another story ...) My lilo got hooked up on a rock at the top of a small waterfall - about 2m drop. I clung to the rock but soon was swept off and down the fall - and I just kept going down like a rag in the current - to a depth of maybe 10m. I had given up fighting the current and was sure I would not see the light of day again, went into that really peaceful zone you see portrayed in movies, and then the current just let go of me and I floated up to the surface. By this time several people were in the water looking for me. Very scary at the time, but nothing could keep me out of the water in those days - I had been a champion swimmer age 7-11 in PNG and was probably over-confident, especially in surf. Such a different story these days - after 16 years in mostly tepid water in the NT I still can't get into cold water where I live now (2 1/2 years here). Bro and sil have had a pool put in so I am really going to have to overcome my aversion. It feels like it would be just so wrong to have the pool and not use it. The place I go to for water tai chi is heated all year round coz it's a hydrotherapy pool. The beaches here are stunning too and I know it would feel really good to swim in them if only I could get past the temperature drop. So that's my little rave for the morning.

@TAB starting the day with your Tom Waits link and loving it, thanks. Such a cool guy. I remember him as the bar tender in Rumble Fish (my favourite movie for many years) - totally had a style of his own.

Hope today is gentle for you all and has some positive moments in it.

Particularly thinking of you this morning @saturnzoon and hoping that you can focus on looking forward to your financial counselling this week and feel some hope about it. I am sure they will help you restructure things so that you don't have the recurring crisis any more.

amazing with the swimming stories .. I liked the beach and liked swimming, just couldnt dive face first into the sea. I used to have nightmares for years of walking along wooden jetties with missing and old planks and fearing the sea

There used to be a show called Sledge Hammer a cop comedy found again when googling yours yest, well there was an ep where here was overcome simultaneously by fear of heights and the sea; he was on a balcony atop a light house .. had to laugh .. thought 'thats' me .. I worked on both and neither that much of an issue anymore @eth re TW cigs and coffee movie supposed to be good. I'm not really a fan, I only like that one album, friend had others, I just didnt get it
