Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Well hello to anyone who's discovered this new thread .... and welcome!!!

For some time I've noticed things are a bit quiet on a Saturday, especially in the evening. So this will be a social gathering for all forumites and hopefully a place to relax and meet friends. It's also a place where you can talk about whatever's going on for you at the moment, safely, and find support.

If you want to bring something to eat or drink that would be welcome, whatever makes you happy.

Actually that may be a good place to start - jump in anywhere and let us know one thing that makes you happy - currently or over time.

Really looking forward to finding a posse to hang with on a Saturday.

L E T ' S P A R T Y !!!

I meant the show was about abdicated British king's ambitions/actions in relation to Germany at that period in time, ie he and Wallis Simpson were 'up to no good' and if not for illegal and undemocratic action by churchhill there could have been a coup in Britain apparently ie he had all the brit fascists locked up because they were about to let cat out of bag re his illegal actions

sounds like what is happening these days @Appleblossom

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

My journey through that understanding came through finding Churchills straw feet ... in my early 20s.

I read half an autobiography of him, lent to me by a scientist more vested in brit class etc. It was a real turn off. I have always been wary of power games, and wary of the House of Windsor. I developed a sense of Europe before Nationalism became the next new big thing.

I love Kathe Kollwitz etchings and that helped me settle on the human side of the war. I know a guy who was in Dresden when he was 5. Not fun. I played recorder with a lady who walked to school over a bombed out bridge in germany.

I read Readers Digest Condensed version of 'My Early Years' think it was by churchill he was a right upperclass twit who failed at everything he attempted well almost everything, but because of his status he kept coming back and getting given another go @Appleblossom anyway if you recall my father was in german army in war and he and 8 siblings are slowing dying off ..of old age ..

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

Oh I def recall that about you. @TAB Always do. So I am aware of the intergeneration trauma that seems to have filtered down.

I also think it is a numbers game. Simply there are far more Germans than dutch. SO I am more likely to run into them, unless I specifially go seeking a group by nationality, which I only had time to do recently.

I believe these conversations need to be had, that to mindlessly throw people together from vastly different backgrounds and expect harmonious communities is a little naive.

SO I keep speaking and trying to find bridges. It gives me a purpose, til the next time I take a whopper.

almost scared to ask what 'take a whopper' means @Appleblossom

Re: Saturday Soiree - all welcome!!

There are times when I am trundling along alright, then there are times when I am totally vulnerable. Nothing implied, just acknowledging that I get knocked about in life. Mostly I keep getting up again.

@TAB

Learning to find language that is less precious and more conversational.

Have you looked much at K Kollwitz?
