Learning to live (and be myself) again

Learning to live (and be myself) again

I've been through some major highs and lows since i recieved my diagnosis. And by highs and lows i mean stages of good and bad health. Stages of working and unemployment. Bouts of depression and anxiety on a daily basis....I've had all sorts of stuff going on basically.

@Appleblossom yea I've settled in. However life goes on in it's own way. You've been a great support in your own special way .

Meowmyy yea i think life is a struggle for everyone although we don't see it written on everyone's faces . Have you thought about trying to prepare and prevent for your difficult times? Notices the cycles and looking ahead for them type of thing? Maybe look up p3 mental health.

Hamsolo011 it's good to hear of a success story on the forums . Someone turning their life around and making something of life. I've found with working and career stuff that you've gotta take it seriously and be vigilant about your mental and physical well-being. So everything doesn't go pear shaped.

@Sophia1 yea life and getting old. It's not real good. I'm unsure of what to say. Just gotta keep moving forward and do the best we can. And seek help when we need. I worry about getting old and things getting more difficult . Things changing that are out of my control . I sincerely hope things pick up for you and you find some peace and joy .

@Zoe7 i hope you're well supported and managing your teaching role well. And i hope Toby is behaving him self for you .

As for me. I've been focused on getting a good nights sleep everynight and being well rested for the day. All the pieces of the puzzle are here. Just gotta keep finding where they go .

Re: Learning to live (and be myself) again

@eudemonism

About resting and getting good nights sleep ... after nearly 20 years of deep depression and struggling to keep moving and getting things done ... I had a quiet realisation that I was bouncing out fo bed ... and having more energy ... and more hope in life ... it really came home to me that my mental state ... was due to grief and trauma not just because my family was wired wrong or sick ...

At the moment there is a personality in one of my choirs who is upsetting people because he never knows when to be quiet and interupts and wastes choir time with trivial comments and general attention seeking .... I dont mind him apart from the fact that he asks dumb questions and does not realise how he is coming across ... he is trying to be bright and cheery ... you are right sometimes its best to go with the flow ...

Yeah @eudemonism
Thanks mate. It takes time.
Last day of week 1. Getting the hang of it.
You are exactly right re vigilance about MH.
Just gotta take it one day at a time. Expect the best but prepare for the worst I guess.

Three years ago I wouldn't be able to do this job. I would've bailed already.
But gently does it I guess.

Re: Learning to live (and be myself) again

@Appleblossom yea a large part of life is about attitude ... the wrong attitude verse the right attitude ... I've put some thought into urge surfing. It's kind of like selecting and choosing the right thoughts to act upon. As apose to doing nothing or being impulsive and making the wrong choice for ourselves. Or doing nothing and becoming morbid . As for this person you're talking about... Yea not sure what to say... weighing up the options i think they call it .

Re: Learning to live (and be myself) again

@MDT good work to get this far mate . I suppose what I'm trying to convey to you . Is you've gotta get the balance of everything right. No good going to work everyday if all it does is stress you out and make your life miserable . And i think the key to preventing this is staying well and maintaining a positive attitude.

Re: Learning to live (and be myself) again

Relations with colleagues can be the hard part @eudemonism

Partly because of trying to understand and balance the commitment of the job but also managing MH. but I have taken a minimalist approach thus far. But when I do talk and interact I always do it with good cheer and personality. A bit like money - use a small amount and use it effectively. Then get used to it then use it when needed
