Stressed with work

Stressed with work

I am so stressed, my anxiety level is really high. I have so much stress at work at the moment. A young girl resigned two weeks ago, they employed someone else who is hopeless. Now i have been so much more extra work, responsibility that i don't know if i can do it. The area manager of our store came in today and was shwoing me so much stuff that it has gone over my head. And i can't ring her to ask her to repeat it again because that makes me feel so useless and dumb. She told me she is coming back next month to do an audit of our store. she then said we need to planogram each section of the store to our it is meant to be according to the print outs. she kept going on and on and on.

i am home now stressing and thinking of all the work that has to be done. i can ask the other girl to help me but she is so hopeless i am doing work at the moemnt for two people.

i don't know how to cope with all of this; all i want to do is cry because i am so overwhelmed with the amount of work put on me. and its not my responsibiity i am not paid to be a manager and nor do i wnat it either. and i don't get paid enough to be stressing so much.

i don't know what to do. i feel like i want to scream, yell, cry, and run away. i can't cope with all of this; its bad enough going through my own personal issues; i hate life

Thanks @NikNik @Decadian
Today is a better day. Had to work this morning but I kept busy. Going to the footy tonight with hubby daughter and her new boyfriend. I am going to write down all my extra jobs I do at work and then see if I can pluck up the courage to talk to boss or supervisor. Taking it easy today

Re: Stressed with work

Also forgot to mention I did use lifeline last night. My mind was everywhere. And in dark thoughts.
But I want to thank @CherryBomb for emailing me and checking up on me. I feel so loved by everyone on this forum. Xxxooo

What do I do?

I have just written down a list of all the jobs that I do at work . It is a very long list.

I have also found out that our new person is getting paid slightly more than me. This is making me feel angry, invalidated and useless. I am angry because if I have to train her I should be getting paid more than her.

Problem is - how do I talk/email my supervisor? I am worried that if and that's a big IF he decides to give me a pay rise then he will give me more work and responsibility. What they have done is the store manager left about 2 yrs ago (before i started) and they never replaced her. So there way is - lets give manager's job to shop girls, pay them less but give them more work.

I can't take all this responsibiity and pressure anymore.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I should tackle this? Any tips would be appreciated.

This is a tough one @BlueBay

i know - and I don't blame you - but you are scared of what might happen if you speak your mind -

But unless you do something you will lose your health and this will be bad for you in every way

And I have noticed you do calm down at weekends and become stirred up at the thought of going back to work -

So if you write down all that you do and ask for more money you might get what you ask for

Or not - and if this happens - and I was in your place - I would gather up all my self-respect and leave

We won't feel any less about you whatever you do - but you must do something - it's hard to tell someone this - but you must do something

Re: Stressed with work

Thanks @Decadian

This is a tough one, I know. That's why I am so damn scared in doing something. But I have to do something, otherwise I will end up really sick mentally and physically.

I was thinking before that I may even ask my regular therapist for some help and advice as well. I see him this Saturday so I will ask him.

I need as much advice as possible because I have no idea, i am scared. I think I am scared because a few years ago I did ask my manager for a pay rise in accordance with more work than what I was employed. He said okay I will look at this. He came back the next day and said yes I have given you a pay increase. I was so excited, until I got my paslip - all he gave me was an extra 27 cents an hour extra. I was so shocked and angry; I thought to myself after all the work I do for you and you give me 27 cents. After that I did leave for an admin job and my salary was an extra $400 a fortnight.

But also I am scared of leaving, scared of looking for another job again, applying, interviews, starting all over again. I don't have the confidence or the courage or strength to do any of that.

@BlueBay

I've always found it helpul to come up with some possible solutions when speaking to a manager about this sort of thing.

If you were given an acceptable pay rise would the extra pay make it any easier for you to manage the heavier workload? Only you know the answer to that question.

Alternatively you might suggest the additional tasks could be split up equally amongst you and the other workers so you would end up with less to do.

Most managers/supervisors will consider what you are saying as less of an attack on their management skills if you can show that you've considered other ways the situation could be resolved.

As previously stated, above all else you will feel more in control if you do something rather than continuing to become more distressed.

I had to write a similar list about 2.5 years ago. As I had suggested the work was more evenly distributed and was quickly resolved.

At present I am doing a very physical job that is leaving me totally exhausted every day. It is also exacerbating the levels of pain I'm experiencing from a serious back problem. I have a meeting tomorrow with my supervisor to discuss this and to try to find more efficient ways of sharing this load.

I hope your discussion goes well for you.

I must get off to sleep as I need to get up by 4.30am

Re: Stressed with work

Hi @NikNik, moderators or anyone that reads this.
How do I prioritise my workload when there is so much to do in one day. Throbbing headache and almost bursting out with tears.

Re: Stressed with work

Gee @BlueBay

I am feeling very worried about you - you are so stressed out you are in a really bad place and everything is getting far to hard for you

You must make a decision about all of this - or you will become very sick - living with stress like this is tearing you apart.

When you asked your boss for a rise previously - did you specifiy how much more money you would get? I think you didn't because 27 cents an hour isn't much - but I wouldn't mind and increase of $400,00 a fortnight

Still - you feel undervalued - and that is crappy - and almost an insult to get such a small hourly wage - it does to me

It seems you are in a bind because of things that might or might not happen - and we cannot tell the future - but certain things do happen in this terrible trip through life at times

Take the chance - if you leave the job you are in now and have to look for another one and start again elsewhere - you will be recovered - it will not be what you expect

In fact life rarely is - but I can say this - and it is hard to say

If you don't take control of this situation you will be in hospital - your choices will be taken away because you are heading into exhaustion physically and emotionally - and it seems to me that most of us who are reading and responding are saying the same thing - you need time out

Don't worry about tomorrow - it has enough bothers of its own - but please take control today

It is really hard to write things like this and I would not do it if I did not care -

And an idea just popped into your head - you can apply for sickness benefits - I don't know what that work be money-wise - but it would be enough to get your family through this bad place I am sure

My best wishes

Decadian

Re: Stressed with work

Oh @Decadian

I wish I could hug you so much; so sending you a big hug xxx

I was very close to losing it today and tears. I told the pharmacist that I was stressing. with all the work and he said to me to just go easy and do things bit by bit. he told me that i stress too much.

i know tht i do stress and i was looking at all the work i had to do today as huge. But i never got it all done. Tomorrow is my day off and i am goiong to outpatient hospital progam. i cannot wait to go.

I would love to have a few days off but if I do this week it means I won't have any sick leave left for when i go into hosptial. I just don't know what to do.

I still feel that hospital will be a good break; it will be a circuit breaker. I think i will ring my psych tomorrow or even have a chat with one of the pyschologists at the hospital tomorrow.

It happens every week when at work there is something so stressful that i don't or can't cope.

And having a new worker is really hard because i have to train her. Every 5 minutes she is calling me. I feel that i am not getting anything done.

I do feel that i am about to break, crack up and lose it. I feel that there is just too much going on.

@Decadian I am just so over it; I am over all this stress. I still have a terrible headache.

Re: Stressed with work

@BlueBay

Yes - I think it is a very good idea to have a chat with the people at the out patents department

A break in hospital would be a circuit breaker - and you would be entitled to sickness benefints which would make it easier financially -

So you are teaching a newbie this week - sheesh - I remember when I had a girl from school on work experience for a week - I was ready to screech before I was through

That newbie could be the last straw - every five minutes - she has no experience working in a pharmacy?

Yes - have a good chat with the psyche and the psychologists - you are stressed out - I don't have to back in the threads to know what you have been battling with over the last few weeks

Including the EFTPOS machine - they wouldn't want to ask me to fix that - it would never work again

Grrrrrrr - at your work

And lots of cyber hugs
