Offbeat Sayings, Or The Art Of Wisdom By Trial And Error

Offbeat Sayings, Or The Art Of Wisdom By Trial And Error

Hello to all you lovely people...
For years now, I've been writing little Hallmark-moment-style wisdoms. I call them "offbeat sayings, or the art of wisdom by trial and error". Some of them are okay I guess. All of them are a lot of fun to write. I find it a totally different head space to writing poetry or short stories...
I went through a phase where I was into mysticism. I wrote some wisdoms based on that perspective, some serious, some just for fun...
Here's hoping they get a chuckle or a pondering raised eyebrow from just one other person...
Hugs, my lovelies... 🙂

Whether you consider yourself crazy or sane is immaterial. If you are in a room full of crazy people, you are sane. If you are in a room full of sane people, you are crazy. The secret to inner peace is to not struggle with the question of whether you are sane or crazy, nor to try to be one or the other; but rather to be the room, and encompass and embrace all of the sanity and craziness that lies within…

Our expectations of life become self-fulfilling prophecies. Through a myriad of subtle conscious and subconscious actions and reactions, we step along this pre-determined path of our own making. In order to break the cycle, we must realise that we are ruled, not by a grand destiny, not by blind chance, but are slaves to our own pre-determinism. With this realisation coursing through our veins, the shackles drop from our wrists and ankles, and we are free to craft of our futures what we will…

Laughing and crying are opposite sides of the same coin. Do both with all of your heart…

Take it from a guy who has spent most of his time being controlled by his head (and hey, that’s what most guys do). Go with the heart. It’s so much easier to justify and cope with a decision made with the heart than it is with one made with the head. Even if the decision turns bad, the consequences are easier to deal with. Emotions trump all the thoughts in the world, as far as I am concerned. Listen to your gut – it is wiser than all of your thoughts put together. I guess it’s all about balance at the end of the day, but if you keep overthinking things, you end up being paralysed by fear and uncertainty. From emotions come spontaneity, the pure joy of life, and a will to extract every moment of experience that you can from the “now”, instead of trying to second guess yourself, and try to arrive at a logical solution with your head. When you think with your head, all of the baggage from the past and the possible disaster scenarios from the future get in the way, and it’s almost impossible to arrive at a decision. When you think with your heart, it boils down to a simple decision of whether it “feels” right or not right now. If you make the wrong decision, then you just have to deal with that in a future moment of “now”…

Balance is the secret of happiness, especially when you are teetering on the edge…

I guess it’s all about balance – we need to trust ourselves enough to function, and doubt ourselves enough to continue to strive for the right thing…

Each brick you tear down from the wall lets in more light…

I think perhaps life is all about trying to turn the negatives one perceives into positive catalysts for change. Once the negatives are reframed in this way within our perception, we can put down the stick we have been beating ourselves with, and start to remodel the pliable clay of our lives and our selves…

This fight that we are in, this war that we wage, never ends. That should not fill us with trepidation and negativity. Rather, we should realise that it is just another element of this incredible thing called life, this extraordinary journey that extends and expands us, humbles and honours us. Were we not tested, we would surely remain mediocre. Were there no hills to climb, the view would not take our breath away…

We are all worthy of redemption, salvation and healing… even if we do break the rules… and hey, who of us magnificent misfits and wonderful wayfarers hasn’t broken the rules of a society that has a very limited perspective of what “normal” is…

It is often good to remind ourselves of those things that salve our hurts and soothe our pains, and to seek them out. Pain is a valuable tool for personal evolution, but it is also exhausting and destructive if faced for too long without respite…

Inner beauty and art should always be thanked. To practice gratefulness for those things that enrich us, that challenge us, that help us grow and understand, is one of the greatest things we can aspire to…

It’s one thing to have time for others when you yourself are doing well. It’s quite another thing to apportion what limited life energies you have when struggling, in the pursuit of helping others…

Do not fear exploring the wilderness. You are not lost until you need to be somewhere else…

That is one thing that I truly love about Humanity. We are a bunch of deeply damaged people who still manage to support and share the love around, despite often barely being able to cope with our own problems. It continues to amaze and delight me…

We are all so different and yet so similar…

When I am 98 years old I want the things I think about are not the material objects in my life - but rather the people who I loved - they don't have to love me

in my humble opinion this so called zenith society will soon reach its pinnacle at which point a crucible will need to occur in order to bring on a transmogrification and a social, economical, emotional, spiritual and physical metamorphosis akin to that of the likes of evolution...
