Offbeat Sayings, Or The Art Of Wisdom By Trial And Error

Offbeat Sayings, Or The Art Of Wisdom By Trial And Error

Hello to all you lovely people...
For years now, I've been writing little Hallmark-moment-style wisdoms. I call them "offbeat sayings, or the art of wisdom by trial and error". Some of them are okay I guess. All of them are a lot of fun to write. I find it a totally different head space to writing poetry or short stories...
I went through a phase where I was into mysticism. I wrote some wisdoms based on that perspective, some serious, some just for fun...
Here's hoping they get a chuckle or a pondering raised eyebrow from just one other person...
Hugs, my lovelies... 🙂

Ah @Silenus

Some of these are brilliant - eg - being falsely happy during your years in the wilderness -

Yes - the bliss of ignorance -

The cloud around the silver lining of your inner truth

We must never waste time in the wilderness - that is a truly bad Idea - the view to the sides that many people never see - the bit in the middle - life is the journey - the beginning and the end - the beginning so noisy - the end - hopefully quiet

Practical people have no idea who to be sensitive - they have a job to do - and fail to notice that beauty at the change of times and tides - the solstices - the equinoxes - dawn, evening - the phases of the moon

Being practical is necessary at times - but all the time - never - there is so much beauty

Hi @eth 🙂

I'm thinking of you at the springs... such a lovely spiritual place with beautiful spiritual people and animals and plants...

Enjoy the calm restorative powers... places have power... sensitive people feel that and are rewarded...

Shukran is Arabic. It means thank you...

I love gratitude. It is one of my favourite ennobling states of being...

I thank the Universe for this gift of conscious life. Gift and curse, it is richness beyond any purse to carry...

@Silenus I totally agree with you about the springs. I'll be feeling gratitude and saying Shukran.

If your mind is playing tricks on you – great. Some people pay good money for that…

Taking yourself too seriously is a serious problem…

Would we still love the story quite so much if it had been a Trojan Warthog…

Backing yourself into a corner is bad. Backing yourself into a sharp spike is worse…

If you think you’re dreaming, don’t pinch yourself. Get 16 naked nymphettes to do it instead…

Everyone should make chunky soup at least once in their lives. It’s very satisfying…

Driving a car gets you places quickly. Too quickly. Try walking instead – you experience so much more of life’s wonders that way… including blisters if your shoes suck…

If you’re too busy, take the time to do something silly… but don’t take the time to be too busy again, because that would be silly…

Don’t worry about things you have no control over. This means you have control over whether to worry or not, and that worries me…

There’s no such thing as a bad kung fu movie…

Ask yourself these questions often – who am I and how can I become a better person? Then go and have a beer and forget all about it…

No matter how good you are at something, there is always someone who is better at it. Except for “being you” – no one is better at being you than you. Except for your evil twin…

If you can’t understand, try undersitting…

Emoticons are the perfect language for bipolars… 5 minutes of talking in 15 emoticons…

I enjoy watching people enjoy watching people, and hope people enjoy watching me enjoy watching people enjoy watching people…

Re: Offbeat Sayings, Or The Art Of Wisdom By Trial And Error

We are each as fundamentally flawed and broken as everyone else. No one has all the answers. No one is better or worse than you, just different. Paradoxically, in this we are all the same. It is a wonderful moment when we realise this. It opens us up to much greater levels of understanding, empathy and compassion…

Why do we walk around like we own the planet, when we are really only custodians of its diverse wonders…

It is easy to worry about the future, and what may or may not happen. We fall into that trap all the time. What is harder is to enjoy what we have whilst we still have it. If we focus less on the “what if ” and focus more on the “what is”, we are well on the path to true happiness. There is only one letter’s difference between the two, but that one letter is all important. I am committed to being an “s” man instead of an “f ” man…

If life is too difficult, take some lessons…

Anything with the epithet “Don’t go in expecting too much…” just leaves me cold. Life is too short to waste valuable energy on things that you have to lower your expectations for. Fill your life with quality, not quantity, and you will leave this world all the better for it…

Find someone that inspires you, even if it’s yourself…

Build your beliefs as a house of cards, so that the slightest breeze can knock them down. Then start whistling…

I wish I could wish the blues away, but if I could do that, I would have done it for myself long ago. It’s a long journey, sometimes, and it takes a while to get back up that hill to the top, where you can see both where you have been and where you will go next. When you’re at the bottom of a hill, all you see is the big climb, and it can be very disheartening. But each step you take is one step closer to the peak…

Happy people are fun to be around. Since you are the one person you can’t escape from, just be happy for the sake of it and enjoy the fun…

We are not mentally ill. We are merely on the edge of the human experience…

The biggest lies are the ones we tell ourselves. We whisper them in our minds so many times that, no matter how big the lies, we end up believing them with firm conviction. The veil, firmly in place, shields us from all of our nasty ignoble traits. Confident in our self-worth, we tread the easy path, often deluding ourselves so much so that we do not even realise the difficult paths exist. Identifying and confronting our negative aspects, free from self delusion, is one of those difficult paths, and one well worth strapping the hiking boots on for…

Saying sorry is easy. Meaning it can be harder…

The family, friends and acquaintances that I share my life with make me realise what a wonderful and complex creation we human beings are. They enrich my life, and for that I am eternally grateful. Thank you one and all for deigning to grant me the precious gift of letting me into your lives. You walk the walk, talk the talk, challenge me, support me, entertain me, crack me up, show me the heights and depths and breadths of the human condition, help me to grow, and otherwise make of this sometimes mean existence a truly awesome experience. Big up ya…

If time is an illusion, are we the illusionists…

Do yourselves a favour – recognise the difference that important people make in your lives, be thankful for the good and the bad with equal measure, and draw positives from every experience. Take advantage of that which you have whilst you still have it, and don’t forget to let your loved ones know that they are loved in return…

No matter how good we have it right now, there will always be future challenges. If you are in a happy place at the moment, enjoy that happiness, draw energy from it, and be ready for any tough times ahead. If you are in an unhappy place at the moment, work out why and how best to move on. Life is all about cycles of good times and bad. Embrace them both for the positive effect they can have on your life. Enjoy the good times with all of your heart, and learn from and strengthen yourself during the bad times. If everything was peaches and cream all the time, we would never feel challenged to grow and improve ourselves. The peaches would rot, and the cream would sour, and we would end up standing there with yucky stuff dribbling down our chins, wondering why this was happening to us…

There are nearly 7 billion people that you don’t know, and that don’t know you. Try to change that…
