Hi @MDT @TAB @Shaz51 @outlander @Former-Member

I'm doing ok atm

I just have a heavy heart because of my dad and it is diffcult for me to talk about it.

I'm also worried about a friend who is going through a lot atm- she does have a alcohol problem. I don't know how to help her. I know I can only do so much. She really needs help. I am open to suggestions as to what I can do to help her.

Re: Checking In

hi @oceangirl
glad to hear your going ok bur sorry about your heavy heart. im sorry but im not to sure whats happening with your dad but i hope it works out well for him.
you can only do so much for people until they admit they have a problem. you can just encourage her to talk to someone about her drinking problem. perhaps get some resources together like drinking issue supports and how to recognise problems etc and then leave it up to her..

Re: Checking In

Sometimes its best to treat them as a person not based on their actions @oceangirl . Sometimes its best to make space . It can be difficult to know what to do

Re: Checking In

Hi @outlander

I just have to be there for my dad, he has dementia and obviously its upsetting for me to see how this illness is affecting him. I love him so much.

My friend- I have suggested she get help from health professionals and she also needs non health professionals (friends) to help her too. We meet two years ago in rehab- we had different presenting issues- I don't have a addiction problem. Her issue is that she has been to rehab previously twice and doesn't want to go back for a third time. Not sure why. Perhaps she doesn't think it will work etc. I am really worried about her because she is going through a divorce atm and had other personal issues. She started relationship with another patient, but there is sad news with him, he passed away last June. And he passed away in my friends arms- alcohol related health problems. He was in my group in hospital. I think she has PTSD from this. My friend has such a beautiful heart. I try ask her what she needs etc. The problem is I can't help her with money. I kinda feel bad about that. We don't live close by to one another she lives in another state. I'll be doing a bit research on addiction and so that I have been understanding of her condition and what options she has available. I know she needs to admit she has a problem - I really feel for her but I can only be there for her, she will have to do the work. I just hope she will be okay. I do care about her.
