The Beer Garden

The Beer Garden

i encourage you all to join me for some casual drinking, social lubrication and light laughter right here in the beer garden.

Oh and before anyone gets up in arms about alcohol and its dangers the main beer on tap is VB or virtual beer

beer is the third most commonly consumed drink in the world behind water and tea

why not share the worlds joy with friends

Re: The Beer Garden

@Kurra, that's so nice. 🙂 Did you move to Australia at a later time?

@Faith-and-Hope, yeah... Where I am in Canada is called the California of Canada. 😛

You should totally come, at least the west side because it's a lot prettier there. Exploring the forests.. 🙂

@Snuchu

There was a change-over of several standards in Australia when I was growing up. It might have been to do with independence from Britain, I don't know, but we changed currency from pounds, shillings and pence to Australian dollars and cents.

We also changed from imperial measurement (yards, feet, inches) to metric (km, metres, cm).

And I have a vague memory that we changed from Farenheit to Celsius around that time somewhere too. I remember Farenheit ovens when I was a child, and progressively you didn't have to try to convert recipes from kg to pounds or cup measurements, and oven temperatures ......

@Faith-and-Hope, wow, that's really interesting. You learn something new everyday!!

In Canada, we have almost the same, except with Canadian money. I think, anyway. I suck at math stuff.

Currency changed to dollars and cents on the 14 February 1966.

Metric measurements started changing around 1971 and the full change over was completed by 1988.

I had an old car and the speedometer was in miles. I quickly learnt to see 100kms/hr and read it as 60 miles/hr.

I didn't move to Australia @Snuchu
We had grown up with Imperial measurements and then had to adapt to the changes to metric. I still find it hard to visualise a kilometre so in many respects I still think in miles.

Thanks for that @Kurra. It has given me a Goidnight perspective on it. It makes better sense in terms of my childhood memories.

😊

@Kurra, sorry for assuming you moved, that's awesome. I'm glad Australia has a beautiful history.

Re: The Beer Garden

Hi @Snuchu. and anyone else who is around .....

I'm down at the river, and owing to the overcast skies, it is a beautiful dove blue-grey colour, and so calm, there's hardly a ripple. A flock of four pelicans just took off across the water, flying a metre above it in a formation, fishing with their eyes, I imagine. So beautiful !

No dolphins yet. With this calm water, I would know they were coming before they arrived ...... the ripples they send out go far ahead of them, spreading out to the shoreline on both sides of the river 😊 Gorgeous things that they are.

Hey, @Faith-and-Hope, can I offer you a beverage - this is the beer garden, after all. 🙂

I'm glad you're enjoying the nature!

Re: The Beer Garden

Sounds awesome @Faith-and-Hope. I've just finished my breakfast with a friend and it was lovely. However I picked my hands subconsciously (anxiety based) and now have big welts on them 😁 It was still worth it though to feel a bit human😊
