Hi to you too @Shaz51.
@Decadian - Yes of course death is inevitable, but still always hard. And although these people are not related to me, I do still become very fond of them. I really admire the aged care industry workers who so it every day and every night as their careers. I could never do that, its just too hard.
My own Mum and Dad live 7 hours from where I live and they are both into their 80's now. Both with significant health issues and becoming quite frail. Thankfully they are still living independently with the assistance from other family members every couple of days. I would like to think that in my absence someone like me will do something like what I do, for them when the time comes for them to move into a nursing home.
But I do get a certain sense of achievement and I feel good knowing that I am doing something that is needed and appreciated by someone. The lady I visit has no other family, so is otherwise on her own. And thats what the Community Visitor Scheme is all about.
The home I visit is really nice actually and very homely feel to it. I am also able to walk in any time I like, just sign the book on my way through. I know most of the residents there and always stop and talk to them all. Sometimes I even take my little dog in to visit them all, and the residents love that. Thankfully Holly is great with people, and soaks up the attention.
This home also serve beers or punch at least a few days a week during afternoon drinks which I have been there for a couple of times. Although its not the day I usually visit. Perhaps I should change my visiting day? Ha ha. No, I have to time it around my part time work commitments.
I love my pot tea, so much better than teabags. I have never drunk coffee though, never having had the taste for it. Although I'm a little odd, I do like iced coffee. Just not the hot variety. I always felt a little left out when people went to coffee shops and order their fancy lattes or cappaccinos. And I'd order my tea. So I am very grateful that I can now order a lovely spicy Chai Latte and actually feel like part of the crowd.
Hi to everyone else who happens to drop in. Perhaps catch up with some of you later.
