A new start (kind of)

A new start (kind of)

Hi @Shaz51 @Zoe7 @outlander @TAB @Sam3 @utopia @Faith-and-Hope @Appleblossom @oceangirl @Sans911 @Snowie @Former-Member @soul @BryanaCamp @Former-Member @Bunniekins and whoever else is there in forumland

I have tagged some of you because we are speaking lots and some others haven't been around for long. If it's too much for you then that's okay I respect that. I won't take it personally.

I have decied to start up a new thread after my psychiatrist appointment today. Off to a new start.

Simply put, he made the point that I am pressuring myself to do stuff far more quickly than what I thought I could. When this approach fails, it feeds back into the loop that was there before (the "i am not good enough", "I have limited time", "I have wasted my life" etc).

He said it was good I didn't go to hospital and avoided ending up there. This doesn't help. What does help is changing the approach etc.

It was a good appointment. I see him again in the morning and then maybe someone else next week.

So it's not entirely hopeless or lost now.

He thought that pressuring myself to go and get this visa would be the wrong decision, given my state of panic yesterday and also this morning.

He said that I need to hold off on pressuring myself. By saying "okay now that I am in Australia for a bit longer, I need to go and find a job quickly" because this is simply unhelpful. It's the wrong attitude and will only feed back into those loops.

So am I feeling more settled? Yes. Do I know what is next? No. Does this bother me? No.

I see my psychologist tomorrow afternoon. I will get something from my psychiatrist in the morning about all of this I think, which he said he can send off as part of the extension on the visa (which lasts for 2 years anyway). It's just a case of extending the timeframe for when I can receive it.

This would effect my chances of working in defence, mi6 etc but these are already off the table for me given my history anyway. The same is the case for the military and police. It does seem like some things are cancelled out because of my MH, but maybe they are things I was never keen on anyways.

That's a side issue for now.

Going to the UK - still a goal. It's a case of how I get there and WHAT I do when I get there. We have established that rocking up with no job or place to live is too chaotic. Especially based on my experience and degree background and skills. But the UK is a goal. My Psychiatrist said "Poland is always there" so I think it might be worthwhile sending them an email asking if I could be either placed on next year's list OR alternatively get some of my money back given the circumstances. Again, not my concern for now.

My concern at the moment is explaining all this to dad. My Psych spoke to my mum today too so she is in the loop. I think he will understand, he wants what is best for me. It takes some adjustment and time. But this is life and how we live it.

THanks forumites. See you a bit later today

Edit: I heard today that one of my old tutees that i helped in 2017 is working and is at uni. Doing well and studying. I joked that we should meet up for coffee and then i can get a job at the same place lol. So today has had a silver lining. This was the student who nearly quit school. But I can only take as much credit for what they achieved. Most of it was them

Re: A new start (kind of)

thanks for making me laugh again @TAB . ofcourse you go to a bar if you're worried about a bomb.

Yeah, my pdoc is a cool dude, lucky to have met him, it took long enough!

Re throat - annoying to have a set-back, you know best w your health. nothing worse than a sore throat, I used to get tonsilitis, so awful. is it in concrete you're at work tomorrow or do you have some wiggle room?

Re: A new start (kind of)

hey @TAB you have no reason to feel guilt or shame. you're a really hard working man and are ill at present and need to rest. Rest is underprescribed and out of fashion these days but totally common sense. you've been burning the candle at both ends pushing your body to work hard in harsh conditions, so it is understnadable you need rest. My osteo is very unusual in that he doesn't prescribe meds & exercise/physio reps, he prescriebs rest & I love him for it. The body needs time and rest.

Re: A new start (kind of)

i havent had anything like this in 5 years, I pretty much took a month off back then @BryanaCamp I suspect lungs recuperating from smoking is a factor despite GP not agreeing 'oh its what everyone else has'.. yes have been told similar by GPs before re what osteo said

anyway. will txt them soon, turn ph off and go for nap lol

Re: A new start (kind of)

Hey @TAB @BryanaCamp and others.

I had a chance to talk with the Sane counsellor. Last weekend at the meetup I felt sad because there were others around me who were doing well etc. I said I knew that it's unfair on myself to compare myself to people at their best when I am at my worst. Despite that fact I still felt bad. So it was a bit of a trigger for a bigger sense of despair.

It feels like I'm in a continual spiral where things gradually get better and then it starts to crumble again. But then it gets worse and then I hit rock bottom and then I end up coming back up and so on so forth.

I also said I was feeling nervous about the conference this weekend as it is in roomshare and there are many people who are going. Naturally I get anxious about that because of the medication situation and just general privacy. I feel like it's 1984 with some of these things. But I think that's just my anxiety talking. I ust remember that I did much more last year by going overseas and travelling and then also doing the start of the course - even if I didn't do the rest of it.
The point is that I can't think of this as the be all and end all. I spoke with my mum and dad and they understood my nerves etc.

I feel like crying again but idk why. Or even waht for.

I came to sit outside but it's really cold now so I will go inside and watch a bit of Tv.

Then shower and then dinner. I am also getting my sister this evening so she can do some driving for her L plate.

Im also considering less time on social media (even though I use it to read articles etc that are educational) but also less YouTube videos. Maybe replace it with reading because I have a list of 45 books I want to read.

Anyways. I need to tone it down on myself r else I will get worse.

It's all gonna be fine.

Thanks again

take it easy @MDT and that's good that you got to talk to someone

Re: A new start (kind of)

hello @MDT . good you found benefit in talking to the sane counsellor, that alone says you have capacity to relate to people & have interpersonal skills (I don't have this & get hostile whenever someone tries to cousel me so you are stronger than me right there).

the conference sounds really, really cool. Yes, it's weird if your have to share a space but you can get thru this. I recently went away for easter to my sister's holiday house & when it came to medication time I was like, "oh no, I need a glass of water to take my meds & there is not a glass anywhere!". I ended up using a champagne glass - it was the only glass I could find - my sister busted me in m bedroom & probably thought I was drinking chamapge when I was only taking my night-time meds!!

You can get around this by having a water bottle (I wish I had been prepared & had a water bottle in my bed-room) and taking night meds in the bathroom. Does that help?

What's the conference on, what are you going to?? how exciting @MDT !!
