A new start (kind of)

A new start (kind of)

Hi @Shaz51 @Zoe7 @outlander @TAB @Sam3 @utopia @Faith-and-Hope @Appleblossom @oceangirl @Sans911 @Snowie @Former-Member @soul @BryanaCamp @Former-Member @Bunniekins and whoever else is there in forumland

I have tagged some of you because we are speaking lots and some others haven't been around for long. If it's too much for you then that's okay I respect that. I won't take it personally.

I have decied to start up a new thread after my psychiatrist appointment today. Off to a new start.

Simply put, he made the point that I am pressuring myself to do stuff far more quickly than what I thought I could. When this approach fails, it feeds back into the loop that was there before (the "i am not good enough", "I have limited time", "I have wasted my life" etc).

He said it was good I didn't go to hospital and avoided ending up there. This doesn't help. What does help is changing the approach etc.

It was a good appointment. I see him again in the morning and then maybe someone else next week.

So it's not entirely hopeless or lost now.

He thought that pressuring myself to go and get this visa would be the wrong decision, given my state of panic yesterday and also this morning.

He said that I need to hold off on pressuring myself. By saying "okay now that I am in Australia for a bit longer, I need to go and find a job quickly" because this is simply unhelpful. It's the wrong attitude and will only feed back into those loops.

So am I feeling more settled? Yes. Do I know what is next? No. Does this bother me? No.

I see my psychologist tomorrow afternoon. I will get something from my psychiatrist in the morning about all of this I think, which he said he can send off as part of the extension on the visa (which lasts for 2 years anyway). It's just a case of extending the timeframe for when I can receive it.

This would effect my chances of working in defence, mi6 etc but these are already off the table for me given my history anyway. The same is the case for the military and police. It does seem like some things are cancelled out because of my MH, but maybe they are things I was never keen on anyways.

That's a side issue for now.

Going to the UK - still a goal. It's a case of how I get there and WHAT I do when I get there. We have established that rocking up with no job or place to live is too chaotic. Especially based on my experience and degree background and skills. But the UK is a goal. My Psychiatrist said "Poland is always there" so I think it might be worthwhile sending them an email asking if I could be either placed on next year's list OR alternatively get some of my money back given the circumstances. Again, not my concern for now.

My concern at the moment is explaining all this to dad. My Psych spoke to my mum today too so she is in the loop. I think he will understand, he wants what is best for me. It takes some adjustment and time. But this is life and how we live it.

THanks forumites. See you a bit later today

Edit: I heard today that one of my old tutees that i helped in 2017 is working and is at uni. Doing well and studying. I joked that we should meet up for coffee and then i can get a job at the same place lol. So today has had a silver lining. This was the student who nearly quit school. But I can only take as much credit for what they achieved. Most of it was them

Hi @MDT,

If you can't access the helpline chat currently, it could be that they are unavailable for the moment or busy ☺️ Might be best to try to get through to them again in a bit. Meanwhile, maybe you can share some of what is happening for you here with other forum friends to get support while you wait?

Re: A new start (kind of)

okay @Former-Member

I'm just sick of having nothing to do each day. There's only so much application submitting I can do until I start to feel utterly terrible. I'm not sure why. IT just feels like I am climbing a mountain with a broken leg blindfolded in a blizzard.

I feel dizzy with grief and angst because my situation atm. It's like I'm going around in circles with all of this. I improve slightly. Then increasingly get a little better and then a small thing doesn't work and then it continues to decline small bit by bit and then I stumble onto where I was before.

Atm I hate myself. I hate what I used to be. I also hate what I am now. I'm not impressed by my efforts and I'm utterly pathetic. It's hard to put into words how terrible I feel atm. I'm so fed up with myself, everyone and everything.

Sick of being a disappointment and a loser.

sorry you have to read this @BryanaCamp @TAB

Re: A new start (kind of)

I'm going to see if the SANE Chat is open a bit later on

I need to drop my sister off at the station soon so I don't want to jump on until I get back from that.

I was going to cook chicken caserole for dinner tonight and it used beer but I think alcohol might be a bad idea today so just going to use stock

I'm trying to drink less - even though it's not much for me I still think it's a bad idea to inject more chemicals into my body when I'm taking meds.

Re: A new start (kind of)

hey @MDT no need to apologise. I totally hear you. It is very hard being unemployed and mentally unwell, I find. The days can feel aimless and it is very hard to keep the motivation up. My hopes go up when I submit a job application and envision myself going to work there, then my hopes gradually fade when I don't get a phonecall and finally get the rejection email. It's increasing hard to answer in an upbeat way when people ask "how's the job hunt going?"

You're doing an awesome job & are being very productive. I can't believe how many applications you're writing! Plus you've been recently employed and have great references. That's a good position to be applying from.

I really do find volunteering 1 day a week gives me productivity & structure and somewhere to go and something to do. It's work! Helps with the unemployment blues. I work hard, my manager is grateful and it makes a good change from just job searching & writing job applications. Maybe you should really consider it, simply as a way of getting out of the house and having structure to your week beyond writing & submitting applications. It's not like it's a binding contract, the minute you get paid work they understand you have to go. Please give it some thought, I think it could really help you & it's quite easy to arrange.

hi @TAB is the movie any good? I'm off to arthouse Japanese film tonight. I like it cos it's like travelling for me, expands my stubborn mind.

Re: A new start (kind of)

@TAB thanks for making me laugh!! eww, I'm squeemish these days about that sort of stuff, getting more conservative with age. how are you going with alcohol? Does your respite include a medicinal short or are you abstaining? I can't keep off the beer for more than a coupla days. My psychiatrist just laughs which I appreciate.

@MDT avoiding grog is very self-disciplined and very good for your liver & health. Good onya. N.B. When cooking with alcohol, the alcohol evapourates off when you heat (cook) it, you are just left with the flavour. So you don't need to worry about alcohol toxicity with cookery. I make fruit cake with brandy but all the alcohol is burnt off in the cooking process. I make chicken casserole with white wine and bolognese sauce with red wine but all alcohol is cooked off during the cooking process, only the flavour remains. An exception is one fruitcake recipe where you take the cake out of the oven and pierce it with a skewer then pour brandy over & let soak in. Here the brandy & alcohol is intact as there is no cooking. Know what I mean?
